as opposed to the useful comments above which actually focus on the content, I was struck by the photo -- what a great idea, to put chalkboard paint on the inside of the pantry door and use it for grocery lists and menu planning! genius! (ok, I'm probably the last person in the world to find this revelatory...)

reasonably careful and experienced baker, have made a million shortbread recipes, but this fell right apart on me. I added three teaspoons of water, but it never came together. Wound up pressing it into the bottom of a tart pan. Fingers crossed I can do something with it... all that butter wasted, otherwise!

Heartfelt thanks to the hive mind! In two hours, stripped the old 1980s vinyl off a bathroom wall with help from this post. I still need to scrub, and the room stinks of vinegar, but hey, I have a wall again! Never would have thought it'd go so fast! Seriously appreciate the hard-won experience here.

hate to be the dissenter, but alas, this didn't go so well for me. Soup was underspiced and dumplings fell apart, even though I'm an experienced dumpling-maker (quite the self-characterization, I know). No one else in the family but me could tolerate it; I'm going to be stuck eating it for the rest of the week so as not to waste a perfectly good squash. Too bad.

No one's posted WNYC's On the Media yet!?! Huge, huge fan here. Smart commentary on the connections between media in all its forms and the rest of our lives, especially politics. Brooke Gladstone, if you're reading, THANK YOU.

There are hundreds of Peruvian piscos, aged and processed in different ways (akin to tequila's gradations of anejo, silver, etc), and they're delicious. The Chileans are pikers by comparison. Try the real stuff, and you'll never go back...

Without the rose and blue elements (ie, just the multicolored wood-toned pieces), this would be closer to classic. Any comments on parquet's longevity with kids and dogs?

No, no, a thousand times no. No problem with porn, no problems with relationship advice, but I don't want to find either of them here.

Belittling your readers' comments also seems ill-advised, but who am I to judge?

And the recent uptick in typos and grammatical errors: can't you find a recent j-school graduate to underpay, someone who can catch these things for you?

I'm off to Manhattan Nest, or Young House Love, or Little Green Notebook -- not as much fun and variety, but no sudden detours into random topics, either. Sorry, Maxwell. Much respect and appreciation for your hard work, but this was a seriously bad call.

I didn't keep mine either, and I am going to rush out to find one. Online magazines just don't do it for me -- I want to hold the magazine, dog-ear pages, find it lying around and serendipitously turn to just the right page, all that old-fashioned, twentieth-century tactile stuff we don't do anymore. glad others have had positive experiences with epoxy grout, but my own was very disappointing. 2-3x the cost of the regular stuff, and it got just as dirty. Loathe it. But I love my new(-ish) granite counters, especially for baking!

Agreed that the glass top can be a pain, but even so, I still love my Maytag Gemini electric double-oven range. I bought the snazziest model available (convection, "warming" area on the stove) and wouldn't do that again as I use only the basic features. But I love this stove and oven. Stovetop is very responsive, for an electric unit, and cleans up relatively well with Barkeeper's Friend (often just baking soda works great). I love the flexibility of having two ovens: I can have two trays of muffins in the top oven while a pot of yogurt is staying warm in the bottom one. Holidays are much, much easier. My range is easily the best toy I own!
