Yup. Very happy that the word is getting out. I do believe people can get healthy through our food. It may be difficult but worth it.

I've been interested and learning about this for about 7 years now--since I discovered some food sensitivity developed after taking antibiotics.

Nourishing Traditions by Sally Fallon. And info on the gaps diet was very eye opening.

gina25--- wonderful comments---always good to remember as a parent--- we only have "so" much control.

I also like the comment about offering children foods 20 times-- I believe this is a great idea and I heard something similar--- now I just keep offering up the green beans :)

I have a small kitchen and do just fine with the hand held mixer for cakes and cookies, muffins etc. and immersion blender for quick smoothies, soups and salsas. I have a cuisnart food/processor and blender combo that I'm not a fan of but does the trick for pesto large batches of smoothies/weird nut butter puddings and sauces.. I also want a vitamix... but I'm not sure if the cost vs function will pay off for me. i will probably just use it for smoothies. Will I really blend my own flours and nut butters?

AND... I thought I would see rice cooker on the up for discussion list. Currently I'm looking to get one (newly gluten free and I have a 2 week old and 2 years old to look after--yes I burn my rice often!!)

i need a crockpot. we rarely use our juicer or ice cream maker. this is more because we are busy... we toast our toast in the oven/broiler and don't have a toaster and don't miss it.

My husband HATES that we have a bread maker... I have made about 4 delicious loaves of bread in it over 6 years :) but considering I would have made zero without it... I LOVE IT. Now looking for gluten free recipes to make in it :)

It appeals to me--mostly for aesthetic reasons. I know I can't keep the remote controlled cars away from my husband and son forever, but I am trying :) so if we have to get one I'd rather have these than something that is unattractive and plastic. And I do agree with Tanya-Dolly I am sure the batteries are far from environmentally friendly--but if I do HAVE to get one I'd rather the exterior be wood--again I mostly like it for the aesthetic presence.

Why Everyone Thinks I Eat My Pancakes Weird

I do this often but I don't find all of the pre-cooked foods that appealing. Carrots, beats and winter squashes are fine a few days later... but with Spinach or Roasted cauliflower just isn't as good two days later (IMO) any tips for refreshing the veggies? Did you re-heat or eat them cold?

I was curious about this-- but my problem is that I don't think my older one is ready for the top bunk--- 2 kids in cribs!

The luca glider by Monte designs is similar and we bought a flor model from the company for half price ($500) They have the best customer service--- you could also check craigslist for this similar design.

Affordable Alternative to this Glider?

I make my own bread because of the "additives" to the store bought bread. It is hard to find bread with out lots of other not so good for you "stuff" in it

Yes, I agree these are a little silly and most likely won't combat "obesity" per se but it has been winter and I can see a few kids I know getting there wiggles out on these things especially when it is below freezing outside.

Wow! I wish I had read this post before I had to make my registry last year... while I did research for my registry there is no way I (or maybe any other "new" mom) really knows what you really need- so I didn't mind getting things off the registry- even with some things not being what I wanted. My best presents were "off" my registry!!! (and of course some we were very grateful to get our carseats from some thoughtful friends who did look at our registry) I guess if you do go off registry include a gift receipt incase of duplicates. But I do agree skip the swaddles or burp cloths or receiving blankets---they will get them from someone else :)

Here is my list of great baby/new mom items that are both gifty and nifty and useful (to me):

skip hop diaper wipes holder
skip hop diaper wallet style changing pad
beaba baby spoons
a sigg water bottle (I was so thirsty post baby and it was great I could just prop it on the couch and not worry about it spilling) or a "cup with lid and straw" I got one from Bed bath and beyond but have seen them at target.
miracle blanket/summer infant swaddle
plan toys/wooden rattles
set of alphabet blocks
cute pair of nursing pj's (or gift certificate to local nursing shop)
mother's milk nursing tea
Dr. Sears Baby Book
a gift certificate to a nearby delivery restaurant
rock-a-bye baby CD- we got Bob Marly and Radio head but they have a ton out there
Trumpette baby socks
baby legs leg warmers

we mounted a digital frame on the wall in the hall way. it looks like a picture frame but it cyces through our family photos. we have a tiny house so we barely have enough room for our art work let alone 1000 pics of our baby! Most digital frames are very easy to update- with memory card or usb. We also use batteries- no cord!
