I'm turning 30 this year - and have been intensively gardening for about 7 years. We always had large gardens growing up. And after college, and 1 year of apt living, my then boyfriend (now husband) and I started experimenting with gardening. Every year the experiment has grown. And it is now something that I can not imagine my life without.

We bought our house about 2 years ago and now have a mini-orchard and 10 raised beds where we grow most of our food. We planted hops this year with the intention of brewing our own beer. And we also planted a miriad of berries. Hopefully someday our little homestead can become productive enough to sell at farmers markets as well.

Gardening in the high desert of the southwest definitely has its difficulties, but the benefits are far greater!

My wedding was about 2 months ago and I made my wedding cakes - along with a bunch of different treats that ended up in the bags for the out of town guests. The cakes were not traditional - a bit rustic, but completely delicious! My husband and I had to do a little work on them the day of the wedding (put the glaze and berries on) - but that was really the only stressful point - and even that wasn't too bad. Some family thought I was crazy for baking my own cakes - but in the end - everyone loved them and loved the personal touch they added to the wedding.

I made this last night and it is SO good! I've been a veggie for almost 17 years and I've always missed tuna salad and this tastes just like what I remember it to taste like! I am definitely going to make this again.

Santa Fe, NM: $1167 for a month house payment (mortgage, insurance etc) for a 1600 sf, 3+ bedroom, 1.5 bath on 1/4 acre.

We rented this same house for 4 years before buying it and we rented it for $975 which is far below the market for similar rentals!

When I was 18 my parents moved across the country. We had always tracked the height on my brother and I in a door frame. My mom transposed these lines and dates on register tape so she could put it up on a door frame in their new house. And we also kept track of the height of our cats! Hopefully the new owners of the house appreciated it!
