Borage, sorry for the rant that's about to come. It seems when anybody comes into the U.S they get a raging A/C addiction worse than the locals! I had a roommate from Bagdad, Iraq who wanted the apartment to be 63 degree F during the summer. I flipped out when I passed by her room and saw a quilted comforter on her bed, no wonder she wanted a frozen wasteland when she cocooned herself every night like that. So it was a constant battle over the A/C because I'm comfortable at 80 degree F. Then I had a roommate from Germany who also wanted an indoor tundra and I just about lost it and told him to "man up" and loudly wondered why do I keep getting all these wusses. The next set of roommates I interviewed I asked them what is their comfortable ambient temperature. The problem is they all said what I wanted to hear because my rent is cheap and the location is in prime higher end neighborhood. My current Filipino roommate is doing her best not to turn on the A/C as much and I'm doing my best to be less of a jackass. Sound Dampening Tricks for Noise Within Apartment? Good Questions |

Love your white sofa, it kills me because it's what I'm looking for. Beautiful Queen Anne furniture combined with exposed loft/industrial-like brick walls that gives great contrasts of characters. Sophia's Antique Treasures Small Cool Contest |

@rexrayfan I also always wash sheets before the guest arrive and again when they leave, especially those who take morning showers, meaning they went to went to bed unwashed with a day's worth of fun stuff. I love hosting friends, though it helps to have super-considerate friends who insist to treat you to dinners. Real Life Advice: Hosting Guests Without a Guestroom |

I've never seen a piano double as a media console, awesome to the nth degree! This is a very lovely, very well edited abode and I would have never guessed that it belonged to a student (yes, I got stereotypes stuck in my head). Color me very impressed. Kristi's Head Over Heels Small Cool Contest |

@Jean, thanks for sharing. Kincade's earlier impressionistic styles caught my eye and I really liked them, and this is from somebody who normally don't have patience or tolerance for the more abstract impressionistic paintings. Kincade undoubtedly was very talented and he found a way to made mucho money and whom am I to deny him that opportunity. If more people prefer his "cottage" style than his impressionistic style then more power to them and him. Sales of Kinkades Spike Like Never Before Design News 04.11.12 |

Gorgeous! I love everything about it, the floor, the bookcases (drool!), the doors between the library (double drool!) and the living room, and the curtains. @HHRI, my books aren't that colorful either, maybe that's why the arrangement-by-colors works. Of the books that are colorful, for example the orange books don't all go on one shelf, they're divided into two shelves mainly due to their sizes. So one shelf is half white and half orange to tan, and the shelf below (which as bigger books) the orange books are on opposite end of their above counterparts and share the space with other bigger white to brown/burgendy books. You seriously put me to shame, I have twice the space but looks no where as edited and cohesive as your place. And I agree about a big couch grounds the place, a stretched couch is a must. Kate's High-Functioning Space Small Cool Contest |

@REDMAIKO, agree with you there. The examples given above are not the best for advocating this arrangement. Small groups of books or a single bookcase can be fine, but entire walls filled with rows and rows of rainbow books is too much even for this fan. In Defense of: Organizing Books by Color |

Dark floors and light walls. Love the crisp contrast, and since the dark color recedes the dark floors make the room look bigger/spacious. Small Space Contrasts: Light vs. Dark Floors |

I admit I was initially appalled at the visuals of books being arranged by colors and internally railed against the idea. That is until I tried it two years later and found I liked it so much better because of the color and size cohesiveness. I know what my books look like and can find the title easily among its similar color brethren. When I added new books I was surprised that my roommate immediately noticed the new titles in spite of being nearly camouflaged among similar colored spines. MonicaK and Pi, I was just thinking this looked like my mom's (who is a grandmother) apartment: the mostly bare walls with couple of tiny pictures and one big panda tapestry (instead of the Obama poster), mix of old stuffs on kind of new mod furniture, and the ever present beige linoleum. She never really made a place a "home" either, that she's just spending time there. Bill's Story-Filled San Francisco Apartment House Tour |

I just installed a chandelier in my bedroom and I love it! Pi mentioned the relative lack of light output but I think for the bedroom it's alright. Previously used a halogen floor lamp and that sucker lit up my bedroom like a movie studio! Too bright, no thank you. With a sparkly crystal chandelier I get elegance, touch of femininity, and beautiful just-right lighting even though my bedroom doesn't get any direct sunlight.
