I love it. I find it interesting that some people wonder where are the "possessions" But others don't *want* possessions and view a lot of "stuff" as clutter, and more to dust/maintain/clean/keep track of/put away. I think the interior of this home is simply beautiful.

Agree 100% with lapin's comment about greenwashing. Any memory foam is pretty toxic- for the planet, and for you :(

I am definitely checking out TJ Maxx/Marshalls/Home Goods for one of these now! Love that tip! $40 is a bit steep, but $10-15 sounds great!

I've done this with pumpkin bread in quart size jars. I waited until they cooled, then put lids on them, as the jars are just meant to be eco-friendly containers to get the baked yummies wherever they are going, not actually preserve the cake/bread for long term storage (yuck).

p.s. the cake/bread in a jar is always a bake sale hit!

These cupcakes are beautiful!

For those of you inquiring about red velvet cake, Cybele Pascal posted an allergy-friendly red velvet recipe on her site not too long ago:
http://www.cybelepascal.com/?p=1988

She says: "This old-fashioned Southern favorite can be made even healthier by using Seelect Natural Food Coloring, which I order online"

I haven't tried these "natural" food colorings she refers to, but curious. Also, I seem to recall seeing some natural food colorings at Whole Foods, but they were ridiculously expensive- something like $20 for 3 tiny bottles, I think.

I too love the scale!

And what a great tip on the parchment paper and Kinko's- although I *just* this week ordered silpats (generic) from Amazon, so no more parchment paper for me. I agree with s00ngtype, the rolled kind can be such a pain!

All of the IKEA glass storage containers I have found are made in China :( Given the fair number of recalls for various products made in China over the years, I'm not comfortable with using products made in China for food prep or storage.

That said, I love, love, love mason jars, and also re-use glass containers that stuff came in- although I'd love suggestions on how to get the pickle smell out of a giant glass pickle jar! It's an awesome jar, but I now have pickle-scented quinoa!

Elamer25, I recall seeing that type of list/recommendation on Suze Orman's website some years back. She also recommends that you keep an additional copy of important, must-have documents with a friend or family member who lives in another town, in the event of a natural disaster or other emergency that prevents you from accessing the copies you have at home.

Alton Brown also highly recommends a scale, and thermometer(s).

I could not live without my VitaMix blender or Cuisinart food processor. I've also become quite fond of the mandoline slicer.

I agree with Kittie... would love a good suggestion about how to easily watch net-streamed video on a large flat panel monitor (not tv). I guess I'm looking for a simple, functional & aesthetic option.

Kittie- right now, I have a large monitor on my desk. I place my Macbook next to the monitor, connect it to the monitor and some speakers, and then stream Netflix or put in a DVD. It's ok, but I feel like there are a lot of wires, and it's not the ideal setup. I'd like to get a larger monitor (maybe wall-mounted?) and be able to watch from my couch, rather than my desk chair :)

Ooooh, I'm wondering if these ideas would work for tree sap on cars as well. The non-paint removing options, that is. Thanks for the tips!

Agree with all of the comments above. The bulleted list reads like a sales brochure from an extermination company.

Particularly given this statement "We all try to keep our home safe and healthy: using chemical-free cleaning products; purchasing organic produce; using VOC-free paint, etc" I would think you most definitely do not want to contaminate your home with the toxic chemicals that will be used by an exterminator.

My dad lives in the country and they had a squirrel problem too- they would find holes in the soffit and also occasionally (rarely) come in through the chimney. He called a wildlife "pest control" type of place, and they came out and put some sort of mesh/screen in the chimney and patched up any openings that squirrels or other critters could come in. No fumigation, no killing, no chemicals. Just covered up the entry points. Problem solved.

I don't think this method would trap them inside to die- they'll run out when you're hammering around up there.

I love it. I love the white, love the plexiglass shelves, LOVE the pantry drawer, and love that the microwave is out of the way and not taking up valuable counter (or visual) space.

Yes, people do really live like this. I too have a white kitchen, and all of my dry goods are in matching storage containers, although I use glass mason jars instead of plastic. I too label mine- because think about it- once you take your rice/beans/grains/dried fruits out of their original packaging, you need to label the container so you know what it is:) I might be even more OCD, because I put my labels on the bottoms of my jars :) But if I had a cool pantry drawer like that, I'd label the tops too- that is SO handy to be able to open that and see what you've got on hand.

I keep some stuff in the fridge or freezer that might typically go in a pantry, due to space, and to avoid attracting bugs/ants.

Can't wait to see what the rest of the apartment looks like. I'm inspired :) p.s. Love the acrylic bar stools!
