Hey Apartment Therapy, Thanks again for another review!

We just wanted to add that we have a NEW kit coming out soon which is a no sew, layered kit. I designed this kit to help those on a budget (you can order one layer at a time) and folks who want a custom mattress size.

A toddler mattress can become a Twin size mattress, which can then become a section of a Full and up to a King size mattress! Just imagine how many mattresses we can save from landfills each year. To dispose of your DIY mattress, simply use it in your garden as mulch.

We have added a REVIEW SECTION to our website too! All natural hull mattresses are not for everyone and may take a few weeks to adjust to from a spring and foam mattress. Come check out what people who have made their own mattresses are saying.

Best regards,

The best use for pillow cases I have seen is a mattress topper made by sewing 4 zippered pillow cases together into a chain and filling them with millet hulls. At http://openyoureyesbedding.com/ we sell them in canvas, but they really are a great DIY project too. Fill each pillow case with 4 - 5 pounds of hulls (if you can feel the separation between pillows you have overfilled it). Use fine millet hulls in the winter (keeps you warm) and scooped millet hulls for summer (keeps you cool).

My organic buckwheat hull mattress topper is the most luxurious thing I own, even though it is the most natural thing I own - I love digging my toes into it every night, feels like I am at the beach! I hate cleaning the bottom of a toilet - why Why why are they designed with curvy nooks and such! One of my to do lists is to encase my toilet in a concrete block, I am serious too, my husband has a concrete counter top business and he promised me he would consider it, yeah!

I became very frustrated while shopping for an organic mattress. I thought it was not fair that it cost so much to sleep chemical free! I ended up making my own mattress and I am so glad I did. I found organic buckwheat hulls have just the right amount of give and support. My first night sleeping on my hand made bed, I though this is what Kings and Queens must have slept on! I now have a small shop on Etsy where I make organic, buckwheat hull mattress toppers for others who would like to create their own mattresses- Read my full story here - http://www.etsy.com/shop/openyoureyesbedding

Adding more brown and dry leaves helped reduce the maggots in my compost, I also started separating my coffee grinds which I usually added water to to get them out of my coffee press, the more moisture the larger the grub population I found - if you spread out your compost before you use it the sun and birds will clean it up for you. I am use to them and think they really help break things down faster - I compost 100% of my food scraps so I do not worry about them eating too much!
