Does the door next to the sofa open into a closet? If so, I would relocate the bookshelf and move the door to where the bookshelf currently is, allowing for a sectional sofa.

It might be fun to use a lucite console. It stands up against all of the other pieces but its not really there.

All of the pieces you have chosen have pretty clean, classical lines. It might be interesting if you introduce something a little more whimsical like Roost's Plumage Console. It has a nice balance of the rustic materials with the refines carving. Another nice option would be Roost's Grave console table. I swear I don't work for Roost, but I have used them over the years and I swear by their designs and quality.

Just sold 20+ years of record collecting. Feel great! MP3s are just fine. They weigh less and take up a lot less room (in my house).

Also, be aware that your credit score doesn't move with you. Buying a car or a home, or even getting a local cell phone can be difficult.

Tile the floor, the shower and the sink wall to the ceiling with the same tile. Then replace the existing shower surround with a clear glass one.

Measure and have some butcher blocks cut to length. Just use rubber bumpers underneath to keep it from sliding around. I've done it before. It works pretty darn well.

Oh yeah, place the office on the far wall centered between the two wall sconces. (depending on how they look you might consider temporarily replacing them). That is the wall that I would either paper or mirror.

Carving out comfortable lounge seating, dining for at least two and a dedicated office in a 9x17 room is a challenge. You need a flexible plan that takes advantage of dual use furniture.

In the living room:
Orient the living room at the sliding door end of the room. In addition to your sofa, get a set of four frame chairs. Use two in the living room, one in the office and one in the bedroom. Look for a CASTRO CONVERTIBLE coffee table:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Antique-Castro-Convertible-Coffee-Table-1961-Dining-/350380531980?pt=Antiques_Furniture#ht_2973wt_913

When you want to entertain a couple of dinner guests, you simply pop up the dining table and gather all four chairs. (Rooms with tons of mismatched things tend to look more crowded...continuity from room to room will help the apartment "read" bigger).
Save the floor space (and visual space) and wall mount the tv.

You can separate the Office from the Living room with an IKEA Expidit bookcase.

In the office:
If you keep a messy desk look for an amroire with doors that will allow you to close it up. Otherwise open track shelving with some matching decorative storage boxes will do fine. If you go with the armoire consider covering the entire far wall with inexpensive 12x12 mirror tiles from a big box home improvement store. It will draw light to that end of the room and lay a dramatic backdrop for the armoire (visually a large and heavy piece of furniture). If you can get away with open track shelving, think about papering the wall. The open shelves will be visually "light" enough to sit beautifully against a papered wall.

I always think this is the most fun part of moving. Its pure potential. Have fun.

Get a couple of estimates. It may be more cost effective to buy new (there ARE well made upholstered pieces still being made). I might be that for less than it would cost to reupholster both, you get a new sofa and a pair of chairs. Or pick one piece to have reupholstered and replace the other.
