Hmm. My first thought was if you have kids- you can make it a REALLY cool Puppet Show Theatre. I know, not the best advice, but wouldn't your kids love it?

Other ideas would be a STAINED GLASS feature! Ok, that's a better idea. Make it look like a stained glass gallery, and make it look intentional. Add special lighting to the windows to really enhance them like a gallery.

How about a cloth-draped wall from top to bottom......kind of gathered up some....???
You have me stumped. If you figure something out, let us know.

If this were mine, I'd leave it there, and do very little with it. I think it's a good conversation piece, and definitely unique.

A few ideas.

1) Try to visually separate the kids in the room so the baby can't see the toddler.
2) Try background noise machines, or a small fan if it's hot. The added noise while sleeping can help them both sleep soundly, AND not wake as much when there are added sounds.
3) Crying it out. can be painful, but eventually it generally works.
4) If your toddler insists on coming into your room, you may find that setting up a small mattress on the floor in your room would be a better option than being IN your bed. Make sure they have to go to bed in THEIR room and only end up on your floor in real bad emergency nights.
5) Make sure your little one is swaddled tight- they'll sleep a lot better through the night.
6) window darkening shades and curtains. Kids sleep a LOT better when there's no light coming in from outside.
7) different bed-times. Put the toddler down first. Let them fall asleep first. Then put down the baby... or vice-versa if the situation works better. Sometimes the act of simply thinking you have your own room is enough to not wake as much. We had to try this with multiple kids who would not go down at the same time together- but separate bedtimes actually helped us in the long run to get to sleep quicker.

Good luck- feel free to ignore or use any of the advice. Hope some combination here helps.

I'm a dad who until recently was the sole earner in our home. When people asked "does your wife work" my answer was always, "Yes, harder than most people I know."

She took care of the 3 kids, and did a million and one other jobs to keep our household in order.

Skip to now. She is now a business owner of a dance studio... yup. We realize JUST how much she was able to accomplish at home now that she is also doing a full-time job being a business owner and dance instructor...

Lots of things Moms and Dads do when they are able to- to stay home with kids...

Lots of things left undone when Moms and Dads have to work full-time at real full-time jobs.

This blog is generally where I come to see a picture of a clean house, because face it, we don't have one :)

This is awesome. Our nursery when we planned for either a boy or girl ended up being this exact color scheme, AND theme. We did it in red, blues and teals. and it has grown up with each of our 3 girls. Great part of it is, if we had a boy, it is JUST as boyish and it's fun, bright, and a has a lot of pizzaz.

I have kids. My problem is figuring out how to vacuum enough, and trying to make my home not smell bad.

I don't believe in house-guests that live in our home over 5 days.

So, what we do is take our kids, who sleep anywhere and love it, and let them sleep on the sofa/air mattress- or on a fun bed made in the living room- just while our guests are there.

Our oldest girl has a queen bed, and she gives that up when guests come. She sleeps either on the spare bunk bed in her sister's room, or on the couch. Then the guest gets a bathroom and bedroom with a door- more privacy all around, and keeps everyone happy.

My oldest daughter has a wild imagination and always changed things up to the last minute about what she wanted. She thought she could change her mind last-minute and have Santa magically know her thoughts. We had to explain that he worked primarily in a mail-based wish-list world... and once her letter was sent, it was pretty much final.

So, this year, she sat on Santa's lap and said, Santa, there are a LOT of things out there that I like. I really don't want to be greedy though, so can you just surprise me this year?

I about melted. And now I am wondering if her presents will be near magical enough, if she really has some other idea in her mind of what she hoped the surprise would be.

At least she was sounding thoughtful and selfless in her request :)

Coming from someone with 3 kids... the best gift for kids- wrapping paper, empty boxes, and ribbons.

They go crazy for them. That's the best part of the holiday for all 3 of my little kids...
Save money and get a few big boxes at the store, and wrap them up.

Someone drops in not giving you proper time to clean-
my solution- don't clean.

Say to them "Welcome to what our house really looks like. Now you are a true friend and just so you know, we don't fake clean for true friends dropping by.... this is how we live-"

I've found lot of people who really like to know you're not being fake just for them.
Plus- who isn't a little crazy and sloppy from time-to-time.... especially once you have kids.

I would love to see a home next on Apartment Therapy where someone from this relationship co-decorates a home with an extreme zen minimalist.

I like both- but lean more towards the less is more approach most times. I love the things in this home- but could decorate 2-3 homes with this amount of decor.

It's fun to see maximalism and collectionism (eclectic hoarders with good taste).

I babysat for a family when I was a teenage boy. I went to the bathroom upstairs in the only bathroom up there... the doors were wide open... and there- in the bathroom was a sexy almost naked full-length photo of the mom. WHAT? I was embarrassed, and ran to another bathroom.
