I always love the "but we survived" comments. Well, I didn't exactly expect the kids who didn't survive to weigh in with their thoughts on mid-century-safety issues. ;-)

Some people survive without seat-belts. I'd rather not test my chances because someone else beat the odds.

Surprised at not seeing Fine Art America on the list. A large variety of work on a good selection of substrates. And a 30 day return policy which covers some of the concerns above of not liking it once you see the finished piece in real life.

I'm sure there are some grand two story foyers where this would be a bad idea, but I think the owner of this town house has gained much more than they lost with this one. The after looks like it was always that way - at least upstairs. Agree with others, I'd like to see at least one after below, though!

To each their own, and it has to reflect your tastes in order to enjoy it, but I'm in the camp of liking the before just fine. Still, it's not like you've defaced the Mona Lisa here - enjoy!

Wow, no personal photos in "public" spaces?!?! I know that people talk about removing personal photos when you're selling a home, but really, the rest of the time, it's YOUR home, why wouldn't you have family photos all over if you want them there? We've always had family photos in our home in practically any "public" room you could imagine.

A lot of ours are older photos of family members long gone, which funny enough were the one type my grandmother rarely had on display. The only photo of anyone no longer with us that adorned her walls was one lone portrait of her parents. There wasn't even a photo on display of my late grandfather. Everything else was her siblings and her children and grandchildren very much in the here and now. I guess everyone has their own arcane photo rules?

The result is nice enough and light years better than what she started with, but to me it feels very out of place in a Victorian home? If you wanted a modern look to your home, wouldn't a modern home have been a better fit?

The plywood in some of these looks pretty slick, but I'm also not digging the particle board so much.

Our doors are vintage/original to the house and not plain hollow-core, but I still love some of the examples above - very creative!

I'm seriously envious of some of these kids rooms. :-)

Wouldn't seem very practical in a hot climate either insulation wise. Maybe this is in a tropical climate where the house remains open most of the time or they have massively thick walls.

Can't imagine ever considering Bob Ross as anything but Zen Cool. I loved watching him while I was growing up and would never have considered mocking him.

RE: whether or not to post the actual photo - is there no chance already the 'offending' party could stumble across this post? If not and it's being done to guard their identity, I can understand the decision not to include it - but perhaps the photo could have been a close up of the color or something less confusing. Half the people commenting think the house in the photo is the one in question.

Seems rather pointless to have the post without a photo of the actual house in question, but in general I think people should chill on their neighbor's color choices. It's funny that this comes up so soon after I blogged about how bland 'our' colors tend to be these days. I think we could all tend to be less judgmental. Don't like the color, don't paint your house that color.

It doesn't sound like you really have 8 hours. Time for the trains, security again... I dearly love London but I'd be hard pressed to recommend trying it. If you do, either pick one thing you really want to do or just do something like a quick wander down the Thames from Big Ben towards St. Paul's and call it a wrap when your clock runs out.

My last visit to London was in September a few years ago, though, and that time of the years was wonderful. Beautiful weather in the afternoons and the shoulder season so really no massive crowds to speak.

Even if they won't tilt, I'm not sure my OCD side could handle the free floating paper print flapping in the breeze, but there's no question it's an incredibly cool look. Maybe if you hung canvas prints or even paper prints sandwiched between glass?

Ha, it's the same mechanism at work behind only liking a band when their unknown and then not liking them after they 'sold out' no matter what. I guess it just has more perceived value when it's rare and different. As soon as anything catches on it seems doomed to the proverbial if not literal trash heap.

I'm not sure I possess the coolness to carry off toting vintage luggage, but I still have my grandmother's old brown Samsonite suitcase that got passed down to me and used it when I was a kid. It's probably been well past a decade since it saw the trunk of a car. That sucker has lasted far longer than any bags I've bought will.
