I buy handmade to support other artists and artisans, not to mention the added benefit of having items that are largely unique. Individual artisans usually put more care into their pieces, which usually means better quality. Having pieces that are a result of a labor of love or creation makes me feel happy when I see these things. The Value of Buying Handmade |

I love how the natural tones of the wood and leather play off the vibrant blue walls in the first photo. A One Piece Wooden Side Table Flickr Find |

For all those times you were at a loss for words when grasping for an easier way to describe "gelatinous vomit". Grellow. Really? |

Ok, maybe I haven't found it yet, but I'd love to be able to flag certain posts, because this is definitely one that I'd like to revisit at a later date. Thanks for sharing! Also, I <3 MountainRoseHerbs in no uncertain terms. How To Make Homemade 3-Ingredient Lip Balm |

I use the Feline Pine litter for my furball. He hated it at first, but he seems to have gotten over it. I like it because it tracks less than the clay bits. His coat has improved and there are less digestive issues (cat vomit) in the house. Now if I don't clean his box regularly, the ammonia smell becomes obvious and he will let me know he's got a stinky box. Part of that is just having to deal with owning a cat. He's aggressively passive aggressive, but so long as his box is clean enough, he leaves the bed alone. Is There a Good, Eco Friendly Cat Litter? Good Questions |

You used to be able to sort out between owner and dealer when buying furniture. Now they're all mixed together and some days you have to wade through all the dealer junk to get to the individual sellers. Why Craigslist is Such a Mess Wired |

ANYway, that's one good re-use for concrete blocks. One of the people in my neighborhood used it to create a low wall surrounding their property. It's made of old concrete and other re-used bits and pieces. It's eclectic, but charmingly rustic, like their home. They have a vibrant garden growing inside the wall every year. @Ansela, this is surprisingly true. I had rented an attic room in an old converted Victorian. The few months I was there, I was miserable and always had nightmares, along with other weird stuff going on. When I signed a lease on a different room on one of the lower floors, the issues went away. It wasn't until after I had signed the lease that the landlord told me that he had a former tenant commit suicide in one of the other attic rooms. Setting up Home: Superstitions |

How coincidental. Many of our older buildings in my neighborhood have first floor retail/business spaces that are laying about unused. I walked past one this morning with a lovely interior and exposed brick and mused to myself how it could be converted into a remarkable living space. The downside is the floor to ceiling windows on the street. In my neighborhood, while privacy is an issue, you're more likely to be broken into. That much exposed glass is an invitation, lol. I'd have to make an honest effort to spend the night in one before I make any judgment. The layout reminds me of the transport in The Fifth Element. So long as it's relatively lightproof and well insulated against too much sound, I think I could sleep there. Kyoto's 9 Hour Hotel |

Usually, in my social circle, we just bring refreshments to help supply the party, i.e. beer, wine, alcohol, food, snacks, paper plates, napkins, anything to help supply the party. The feeling is that it's a bit presumptuous to expect gifts from your guests for a housewarming. Did Someone Say Housewarming Party? Archive Roundup |

Well, aside from the usual food storage, I've used them as planters, dirt scoops (for potting dirt), piggy banks, food storage obviously, and recently to store some mini Japanese paper lanterns while I pack up house. My biggest beef is when they pierce or slice the lids to let steam out, so you can't really re-use the lids for food storage. 5 Re-uses for Takeout Containers |

I agree with @set2sit - you can get used to city noise once you've grown acclimated to it. Your brain will start processing it less and less as a new sound (therefore potential threat) and just start glossing over it as part of the expected background noise. I used to live along the main thoroughfare for the local fire department in a college town. Needless to say the trucks were blaring by on a regular basis. After a few months I barely registered the sirens anymore, my brain having incorporated them into the background. White Noise Machine or Keep Looking for Apartments? Good Questions |
