My parents planted a tree for my each of my siblings and I when we were born in the 80's. Their trees are growing tall and strong in my father's yard. My tree was damaged when our childhood home burned about 6 years ago, so my father cut it down to my dismay. He saved two large pieces of the trunk that I dried and stripped the bark from. They now are beautiful side tables in my home, my favorite pieces of "furniture" and will always remind me of him. If your child's tree ends up dying or if you move and want to take a piece of it with you, make something out of it that they can cherish.

We have 4 in Tumeric and use them every day (2 people around 200 lbs) and most weekends have a group of people of various sizes using them and bending the backs a bit. We had to tighten the screws once a few months after assembly and then somehow ended up with a small chip, but that was easily fixed with a dab of paint and they look just like they did the first day. Their shape is fantastic and they clean up well. We bought them at a discount and I am very happy with the quality for the (sale) price.

If you are in the Indianapolis area, Midland Arts & Antiques is a must. It is an old industrial building near downtown that is filled with quality items from various vendors. There is also a MCM shop at Meridian and 22nd Street if that is your style.

I had a pine tree stump that we wanted to use for a side table. We left it in the garage for 6 months or so and it dried out enough on its own and the bark fell right off. It has been in the house for a year now and no bug or cracking problems. Gorgeous!

We bought two (for different rooms) and spray painted the blades of one a deep brown (spray evenly so it does not rock when installed). They both look great with my mid-century decor.
