When I saw this on DS yesterday I noticed the writer avoided all gendered pronouns. Here Josue is identified as female. That may be correct, but all the Josue's (as well as Joshua's and Joseph's) I've ever known have been male. Maybe going with gender neutral language would have been better here too. This is cute, but wow, 45 bucks for felt, thread, fabric marker, and a template! Draw your own template and buy a bag of felt, embroidery thread, and a fabric marker for maybe ten bucks. Purl Soho Felt Birds: DIY Ornament Kits |

My experience with adhesive backed velcro is that it is very easy to pull up to reposition or remove. I use it around my bathroom sink to hold up a sink skirt and on a wood framed sofa to hold the cushions in place. I think if you were to leave it there for 20 years the adhesive might harden or become difficult to remove, but if you just want to try it out I really don't think you will damage the chairs or require professional assistance. Gallery spaces (and stores) sometimes use double-sided sticky foam (also comes in clear gel pads for clear glass items) to secure breakables on pedestals and shelves. The foam version can be pretty durable - but then the pottery would be decorative only. Suggestions on How to Use Dining Room Shelving? Good Questions |

That's an awesome china cabinet. If it were mine I would try to visually lighten it by covering foam board with a modern printed fabric with colors that tied to the rest of the room and then put those boards flush against the back walls of the exposed shelves. Then I would put my white china in there. White china alone might make the cabinet look better - now it looks so empty and unwanted/unneeded. I would probably also recover the chair seats, but if that fabric is original/sentimental maybe not. To me, the vertical blinds are a bit of an eyesore, more so than the china cabinet. To integrate the old with the modern, some light curtains might be nice. How to Work Inherited Antique into Modern Decor? Good Questions |

My mom once left her backdoor open while airing out the house and a possum came in the kitchen and starting eating her cat's food. Luckily she was able to shoo him out. I had a bat in my apartment earlier this summer that was much more trouble. My cat was super excited about it and was practically trying to climb up the walls to get at it. I left the windows open for the night hoping he would fly out while we stayed at a motel - I was worried about my cat being so interested in it and I have an open floor plan so I couldn't sequester us. The next morning I thought it was gone only to find him again that night. Finally the next afternoon I was able to coerce him out the window. I don't see why the shotgun needed to be reinvented. Perhaps, tweaked to incorporate energy efficient elements to keep cost of living in the house low. I'm kind of wondering if one problem is the Booda Dome itself. Yes I know it is awfully nice looking for a litter box, but if the entry is so low that litter can be thrown out that seems like a design flaw. I find those strange looking top entry boxes (like Clevercat) do a good job to prevent stray litter - but if your cat is elderly or arthritic it might not work. There's also the Booda Dome with the little stair case designed to trap any stray litter - has anyone tried it? Apartment Therapy Los Angeles | The Cat Litter Debate |

Totally agree that a lack of drainage is likely the cause of all those deaths. larchgirl's idea sounds like a good one - that really is a decorative rather than functional planter, so it should be the outer visible planter, with functional pots hidden inside. We have a family friend who owns a vacuum repair shop and he *loves* bagless vacuums because they break down more often and bring him more business. Apparently tiny dust can get past the receptacle and into the motor which eventually damages the motor, causing it to work less well or burn out completely. Thus I use a vacuum that has both a dust cup and a bag to capture anything that might somehow get past the filter. I have had the same bag in there since about 2004, and it is still not ready to be changed and the motor is working great. Apartment Therapy New York | AT Survey: Bagged vs. Bagless Vacuum Cleaners |
