I live in a rental apartment with very old appliances (circa 1970's). It has the basket for flatware and I like that feature. I am very anal about how my dishwasher is loaded and my husband runs like the wind when it is time to load it. He use to try and be helpful and put the dishes he used in the dishwasher, but I have my own system for loading it so he could never get it right. I have to have each piece of flatware separated by style, and loaded with the handles down forks together, knives and so on. I have used the style where the flatware goes in a separate tray, but I felt that it took more time to load and unload them when they are in that way. I can carry my basket to the drawer that I am filling, not being able to do that creates extra steps that I am not willing to take.

I am working on a room of "what in the world was I thinking" when I brought this here. Now, I have to wonder what was going on my head when I brought half of the things in that room and the part that I hate most is that I have to carry that stuff out to the dumpster or to the Goodwill now instead getting rid of it in the first place. Oh well I will not do this again!!!!

OMG, I am looking at my 1973 kitchen cabinets and stove when i look at yours and like you I am unable to paint or destroy them. The only thing I have that you don't is a "What's my sign cutting board that is placed permanently in the counter top. It is a real conversation piece when company comes, because it has all 12 signs with there names. My landlord was real proud that it had survived the 3 decades and made it to 2010, LOL.

@ArtbyKarena I agree we need a IKEA here in Kansas City. I love the things that they offer.

I have a couch and loveseat, it works because it provides enough seating when I have a party and the way that I have it arranged right now it works for tv watching with just the two of us or if there is more.

I had a very traditional living room for a long time and that is what I enjoy. I changed because I moved from a large home to a one bdrm apt. I am just trying to make the most of the space I have it is a 900 sq. ft apt so it is not the smallest one bdrm but it requires careful planning to make it work.

$565 for a 1 bdrm + a den and 1 brm, 900 sq. ft. (plus utilities) in Kansas City.

It actually has lg rooms and plenty of closet space and lots of green space outside so that you are not looking directly into the apartments around you.

I am using the same color as an accent wall in my home. I am using it with a khaki green and a white with white trim. For my tastes at first I too, thought the color was a little to dark, but as I looked at it more and more it has grown on me and most people just love the color combination. I even have the dark doors, the one thing that I wish that I could do is change the flooring out to a wood laminate flooring. I have the nasty beige carpeting that is put in most apartments. I am looking for area rugs to cover some of the sea of beige because I am unable to change that part of the apartment.

Don't change a thing, I would add a little more color on the throw pillows on the couch otherwise it is a dramatic look in a small area that works for me.

I live in a building where smoking is okay. There is a woman that lives on the 1st floor of the building that is a heavy smoker, it comes out the doors and goes through the floors. The woman that lives above her has stopped complaining about it, she purchased a air purifier and just lives with the smell. I don't know if I could do that, the person that had my apartment prior to me was a smoker it has taken work to rid the apt. of the smell. I have washed doors and door jams.Painted everything over and I even had the vents cleaned. It is still a work in progress, but it is better than it was when I arrived.
