I love this! What is the source for the large pink bolster pillow? I have a similar bench in my spare room that I'd love to outfit with the same pillows.

We moved to New York 3 years ago from SF Bay area and plan to move back west next year so really there is no "cheap rent" in our future, more like "relatively less". I absolutely lovelovelove NY but in my experience, the rents are slightly higher than what you'd be getting for the same $$ in the Bay Area, especially if you're okay with living in the 'burbs. However long term, I really can't imagine settling in the 'burbs even though we're married and expecting our #1. Our plan is to save (a little) on rent in the next few years and hopefully save enough to buy something in SF/Oakland/Berkeley. For us personally it just makes such a difference to be able to walk to places, to have a vibrant community of people and neighbors around, to be able to have the option of public transportation etc. I totally realize that this means we'll always be paying significantly higher in housing costs than most of the country but hopefully our incomes will rise over time and the trade off will be worth it.

anyone know a cheap source I can use to buy multiple (nice looking) baskets like in the pictures above? I have built in shelves in my bathroom which I use as my linen closet but all my linens are mismatched and don't look so pretty, out and exposed to the world!

I love all the "true" hainese chicken methods out there :) I grew up in Malaysia and looooved eating "nasi ayam" translated to chicken with rice and this seems like very much the same thing. I'm not Malay though so I never really knew how to cook it as it wasn't made in my home. So excited to try this dish!

I love this idea! Unfortunately I'm too far from my loved ones to give or receive these (not that I'm expecting a baby). Does anyone have suggestions for something equally useful/thoughtful to send when you're bestie is about to have a baby in California and you're in NYC? Grocery baskets from Safeway?

I'm having deep headboard crises these days..to spend $500 on a headboard or continue headboard less? I like the last one the most. I would love to hang a picture above my bed but my husband doesn't like the idea of something hanging over your head while you sleep. Right now, we have giant paper lantern stars hanging above the bed but they feel too slap dash. Still searching for a reasonably priced/comfortable option..

I use the Moleskine planner-notebook. It's PERFECT for me because there is a week-planning page and the facing page is a notebook for you to scribble whatever. I use it to plan my budget, note any to-dos and whatever. There is also an extra pocket at the back for odds and ends. I also occasionally use gmail calendar when I'm extra swamped and I actually have to do time blocks to make sure everything I need to do gets DONE. At work, I use google calendar.

What are good apps to sync your gmail calendar to your iphone? I tried one (can't remember the name) but it wasn't that great.

I totally had a pink bathroom once and after much searching and mulling for a solution, I went ahead and embraced it. I got deep green rugs, a white shower curtain with large colorful flowers and thankfully, since we had a window, it became a bright, floral space where the pink didn't look out of place or super 50's.

I wonder if there's a cheaper DIY version someone could come up with...The shapes resemble small bud vases that are available quite easily and cheaply. You would just need to figure out a suitable stopper of some kind.

two bedroom, one bath in boerum hill, brooklyn for $1750. it's a lot but worth it so far and a great deal for the neighborhood. crossing my fingers that our landlord doesn't hike it by TOO much next year. although to be fair, the second bedroom is small and windowless.

I just moved this weekend and it's probably been the least painful move to date. I did a huge sort-and-throw/donate/sell before we moved and I'm doing another one as we unpack.

While I didn't have boxes of "unpack me first" stuff, I had an open bin and a large canvas bag where I threw in the last minute items that we'd need first upon arriving ie. toothbrush, toothpaste, shower curtain rings (I didn't take off our old shower curtain until the night before so I couldn't really pack those things in advance) etc. and the bin had a new shower liner, toothpaste, clean sheets etc. basically things that I had spares of which I could pack in advance.

Our kitchen is almost set up though I still have to clean the fridge and stove. I've wiped out and set up all the cabinets and put away the extra dishes/utensils we don't need. Last night I started working on our closet which needed major re-vamping since we're now sharing a closet!! I got the Joy Mangano huggable hangers from the Container Store to maximize space and I have to say: THEY WORK! I've been able to fit a ton of stuff and there's still room on my side of the closet and I keep wondering how all this stuff keeps fitting!

My goal is to be unpacked completely by the end of this week (ikea trip planned for saturday to get extra shelves and storage boxes) and to be organized by next week. It's a bit ambitious but I don't think I can let it linger, it'll drive me nuts!

p.s. I love apartment therapy!! my first time commenting here! :)
