I am married. Frankly, the SO/boyfriend/girlfriend labels are silly after a certain point/age. In my opinion. So I am married, because I met someone who also felt great about saying "I DO". There was no cajoling, deciding, etc. We both felt that this was the right thing for us to do. Period.

I find marriage holds more value when there are children involved (and yes, I changed my last name so that we all (including kids) have the same last name. Sometime we joke that hubby should have changed his last name to mine. Which would have been fine too). I find that it makes the logistics of child rearing somewhat easier. Again, for us.

While there is a category of women who will always seek marriage. Some, like me, are in it because we met the right person. When the relationship is mutual and positive. If it was not, or if this fact were to change, I would consider the single status again.

There's really no right or wrong answer. It always depends on individual situations.

PS. we are also the couple who didn't want/have a fancy wedding. What a waste of everyone's energy.

to install the large tile you have to have 100% flat surface. the smaller tile is much more forgiving.

I think it has a lot to do with the house and what you plan to do with it. Mine is 30 years old, in a not quite suburbian not quite downtown neighbourhood. And I'm keeping an open mind about selling. Which are all points that I consider when installing countertops. I don't want the "lived in look" because I don't believe the ppl who will come to buy this house 10 years down the road are going to be looking for this.

And while I am making many changes to the house others might not like, I'm sticking with at least some more common elements. Granite is not bad. The bad part is that it is popular. And many ppl choose to run the other way when things get popular. Which is a valid reason for not liking something. But does not detract from granite's qualities.

PS. I'm also putting butcher block on the island to mix it up a bit. And because I honestly don't think my nerves can handle that much granite. Here's to hoping things will look good, and not TOO trendy! :)

Westboro/Island park has very little to none historical significance, so I can see why there wouldn't be any (or very few) rules regulating new construction. In Europe, where the history is much richer, I can really appreciate fighting for the "old charm".

PS, not that I'm a fan of McMansions, on the contrary. But a well appointed modern home in Westboro/Island park (even if it sticks out) is a pleasant signt :)

I never used any scented products on my kid. No wipes of any kind, as little detergent as possible, etc. BUT I would NEVER give up scented candles or my own perfume. Unless the child is allergic or sensitive from the get go. Without any medical reasons, you're just setting your kids up for having difficulty living with smells later on in life.

go get those candles!

PS. we don't own any airfreshners, those are just gross.

I chose white and yellow as my colours for the bathroom we're finishing up. It is AWESOME to wake up to :)

lots of white and a bit of glue/gray make yellow a VERY happy colour.

PS. while traveling I put my wrinkled clothes on a hanger in the bathroom at the hotel. Turn on the shower with hot hot water and leave it for 10-15 minutes. No wrinkles. Works every time like a charm.
