I love the freshness of your apartment, plus the bold color. And please believe me, this is not a negative comment, I designed and made the dress I wore to my high school graduation party in 1970. Except for a little difference in the print itself, your dress is the same dress I wore! Believe me I had lots of comments then too!

m'elizabeth, google up origin of american thanksgiving and you'll find something like this. In the United States, the modern Thanksgiving holiday tradition traces its origins to a 1621 celebration at Plymouth in present-day Massachusetts. There is also evidence for an earlier celebration on the continent by Spanish explorers in Texas at San Elizario in 1598, as well as thanksgiving feasts in the Virginia Colony. The initial thanksgiving observance at Virginia in 1619 was prompted by the colonists' leaders on the anniversary of the settlement. The 1621 Plymouth feast and thanksgiving was prompted by a good harvest. In later years, the tradition was continued by civil leaders such as Governor Bradford who planned a thanksgiving celebration and fast in 1623. While initially, the Plymouth colony did not have enough food to feed half of the 102 colonists, the Wampanoag Native Americans helped the Pilgrims by providing seeds and teaching them to fish. The practice of holding an annual harvest festival like this did not become a regular affair in New England until the late 1660s.

To me, Thanksgiving is kind of a non-stress holiday. It involves no gifts, no huge expectations. We invite who we want, don't go where we want, be thankful for what we have, relax and have a good time. Try to keep the food simple but good, the guest list reasonable. Have a good toast with some decent wine. Enjoy!

To some of the posters: a lot of vegetarians eat dairy. I think the cheese comments would affect mostly those who are vegans, who use no animal products of any kind.

In the time it took me to pick my son up from school, someone stole every plant on my front porch. A huge ficas tree, many ferns, plants I had dug up from my home in another state. I was picked clean. I couldn't believe it!!!

Sorry, but your choice of things to "let go of" is completely lame. Depending on your home, maybe some of these wouldn't work, but they are all beautiful in their own right. Could find nothing here to completly discard forever.

This is stunning, but please save me from the big-eyed velvet people. These were horrible back in the 60's and even more so now. Everything else is amazing!

If the concrete is in good condition, I agree with michelle81. If not, I would consider engineered hardwood rather than laminate. As someone who used it in a bedroom when the rest of the flooring was wood, it was so obvious that it was laminate. It has a hollow sound when walked on and it drove us crazy. There are some great engineered hardwoods that don't cost much more than lam. Before I would use laminate, I would use "wood-look" vinyl planks. I've seen some that are very beautiful and extremely durable, and don't have that annoying laminate sound.

I think the furniture looks great! I'm only commenting because "now that it's Memorial Day", here in Southwest Texas, we are done with outdoors and have moved back inside! It's 95 here and not even June!

I think it's great, except for the book shelf thing. I know these are "kind of in style", but they just really seem useless. I've never seen one in a room where they improved it in any way. To me they are way to trendy of a trend that has no meaning.

Come on house tour posters, how many of us have to say this so many, many times. We want to see the house, not the stuff. I don't want to know what is on people's bathroom shelves, their bedside tables, their kitchen pantry. I certainly don't care about their toilet paper situation. I want to see wide shots of the rooms. I want to see a floor plan. I want to see what makes this space work. NO MORE VIGNETTES, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE!!!!!!!!

As another from the south, this is pretty much southern shabby chic. Go into almost any antique store/juck store in Lousiana, Missisippi, Arkansas, etc., this will be the look. There is a lot of it I love, but not the faux flowers, and things just for decoration. I was very excited to see something other than MCM, but this is just a little to predictable.

I agree with Kristjana, the bed is gorgeous and should be the star of the show. It brings to mind an elegant, calm, somewhat glam room with lots of texture and natural fabrics like linen, cotton, burlap, wool, etc. I think the current curtains, pillows, art and rug are too jarring for the bed. I would also lose the bedside tables and the hanging lights. A chandelier in lieu of the fan would be amazing. A thrift store find spray painted flat black with added faux crystals would easy on the budget. If you can afford it, a drum shade fixture would bring a more modern edge. I would use shiny finishes throughout, gold and silver, and mirror too, for sparkle.

I think smaller lucite or mirrored tables or trays would look great beside the bed, although they are pretty pricey. I've been wanting to buy the fattest concrete form tubes I can find and cover them with wallpaper that looks like birch bark or something elegant and also paper the wall behind the bed in the same paper so that the tables dissapear, which would be great in a small space. Or paint them with Rustoleum's new stainless paint that comes in a can, not a spray. Then top with glass or concrete. Or if you know someone who could build rectangular boxes with an open front and a shelf, you could paint the inside with the stainless paint and mirror the top and sides. I would top the tables with a very modern lamp to contrast
with the traditional look of the bed. Or install flat black swing arm lamps on the wall.

For paint, I would consider Ralph Lauren's Metallic Ambassador Sterling or Silver Plated. Google up Ralph Lauren metallic paint and you'll find all you need to know.

It looks like you have carpet in the room. If it's in good condition, I might just not have a rug. If you need one to hide stains, etc., just a neutral sisal would be nice. I would used linen drapery panels and just keep everthing neutral, yet textured.

Good luck, I would kill for that bed. Although we live in the south and always make our headboards from Cypress doors from New Orleans. We also always replace our front door with an antique Cypress door.
