Heatherette, I thought I'd read that lemons can be slow to fruit when grown from seed, and sure enough: "In any case, you should have a lemon tree, and it will very likely produce tasty lemons in about 15 years! I thought you would want to know that it will take a long time unless you graft from the seedling to a mature lemon tree." Info from here: http://aces.nmsu.edu/ces/yard/2000/040800.html.

When I was growing up my mom kept store bought bread products in the oven, complete with plastic wrap. Let me just say: stupid idea.

I don't keep anything in my own oven, but I might keep pans if there if I didn't have another place to store them. I don't see anything odd about that.

What bepsf said. It's a lovely room, but the cabinet and tv in front of the fireplace is just odd.

What everyone else said. Plus, it's kind of pretentious anyway.

Sputnik: haha, me too. My dog knows what's up if I'm headed to bed with a croissant.
Eating in bed's nice, on occasion. And frankly, I do lots of things in my bed (using the computer, knitting, watching a movie on the laptop, cuddling with the basenji dog, reading, and last but not least things I'm only prepared to vaguely allude to in a public forum), so it doesn't seem odd to eat there. I've also never had a problem with pests anywhere in my house, obesity and/or laziness (I wouldn't want to be friends with you, btw, Monica), or spills.

K T G - that's pretty funny! I wouldn't have thought of that as a search term.

You know, I'm not usually all that quick to critisize AT, but you all do a TERRIBLE job of labeling photos. Which house tour is the bottom left photo from? It's really annoying to have to click through them all looking for it, and then the thumbnails don't even display properly on IE.

A few years ago a neighbor of mine (2 houses down) left everyone on the block a friendly note saying what day he'd be having his Christmas party and leaving a phone number for neighbors to call if they were bothered by the noise or whatever. I thought that was really nice, and I bet no one called him -- his party wasn't even especially loud.

I'd recommend that tactic if you must have your party in your apartment (and are actually prepared to quiet people down if there are complaints), but honestly, it's probably not going to help all that much since there is already animosity there. Other than that, I agree with Bepsf that you might take the party to a restaurant/bar. Lots of places book rooms for events.

Modfan, I think this is the definition you're looking for: "Characterized by originality and modishness; unconventional." You just have to scroll down. Whether or not you agree with that characterization, I don't think the word is incorrectly applied.

Laura, I really like what you did with the fabric in the bathroom. It looks great.

I don't think I'd re-tile without asking because it sounds pretty involved, but in one place I lived (with the absolute worst slum lords ever) I did paint without permission because the landlords never responded to my written requests. I also ripped a super cheap, obviously home-made sometime in the eighties, particle board cabinet out of the kitchen and took down some ugly hardware store shelves, too (and then spackled and painted the holes they left). They were absolutely hideous, and I was pretty sure the landlords wouldn't even notice. They were awful landlords, obviously didn't give a sh** about the building or its tenants, and I don't feel bad at all for improving the place without asking. I left the place much nicer than I found it.

My current landlord is very responsive, and generally a really nice guy. I don't even think I would paint without asking him. I guess the moral of the story is, if your tenants ask to make improvements, you might want to respond one way or the other.

I have that San Miguel blanket! I love it -- it's so warm and sturdy. And beautiful, of course. I got it directly from Pendleton (who actually manufactures the blanket - they are in Portland, Oregon or online), which has lots of great woolen products. I think it might've been a little less expensive from them as well, but I'm too lazy to actually go look at their website right now.

I love winter! I only wish it snowed more here. I would like to have a lightbox, though. Unfortunately for me they are rather pricey.

Keep one or two small photos in your bedroom.
I know several married couples who have huge and/or multitudinous wedding photos, (including one couple who had 2 foot by 3 foot portraits of each of them alone flanking an even larger photo of the two of them together at their wedding - in their living room) and I generally find it pretty tacky. Then again, if you want to display them, and don't care what anyone thinks, then more power to you.
Oh, also, the album idea is nice. Then people can look at it if they want, or not.
