Absolutely beautiful.

Before and After: Kyle's Kitchen Remodel

We have a small kitchen, and recently did white uppers and dark stained cherry lowers, with light wood floors, so not grey but a similar look. I love it! The white uppers open up the eye level of the room, and the dark lowers really ground it, especially on a white floor. We did glass front on all of our white, which also made things feel open, but I've seen solid fronts also look great that way.

If you can't find the glass pieces, you might consider painting the metal. I helped a friend paint a brass chandelier matte black, just using plain old spray paint, and it looked really great and modern. Another friend painted one matte white, which was also a great look. I agree that it's a very fun and unique chandelier - have fun fixing it up!

I second the painting-over skepticism. It might take some nasty oil-based paint, primer, deglosser, etc., but you can definitely paint over them and I think it would make a HUGE difference. I think you'll be much happier with that than with mis-matching them, as I'm afraid things will just look a little jumbled.

West Elm is a great bedding source. They have several solids and simple patterns that would coordinate well.

Like this one in white, amethyst or steel blue:

this one in navy is probably my favorite:

this one in white is nice:

Definitely wood! Since the room begins on the long side of the existing floorboards there should be absolutely no problem creating a seamless transition. And hardwoods are so much cleaner and last forever, as opposed to carpet.

I'm amazed at how mean these comments are. I will never understand why people feel the need to criticize someone else's work in such a cruel way. Maybe it's not your style, but that's no excuse to be rude.

We just remodeled our house's only bathroom and have a very similar situation. For most of the day the bathroom gets minimal light, and we did white subway tiles with grey grout, and pretty much white everywhere. We used Restoration Hardware's Silver Sage (actually, we had Sherwin Williams color match it to save money) and I absolutely love the color. It really lightens it up and complements the classic look of the tile and tub very well. Here are some photos - they happen to be taken during the 20 minutes every morning that we do get light so it looks super bright in there, but the color looks great in all light. http://beforeandafterbrookside.blogspot.com/#!/2011/12/finished-bathroom.html

I agree with the first comment - I think the easiest thing is to get rid of the palm trees and rugs, as well as the green square things on the walls below the palm trees, and then paint the walls white. It would also help to clear the flowers, tissues and clock off the counter. If you're willing to invest a bit more a fresh coat of white paint on the cabinets and a clean white countertop would do wonders, but it might be easier just to negotiate price with a buyer than to put that much work into it.

I made curtains for windows like this for a friends' house and while they did the job as far as privacy and light control, the scale of them was always strange. They were like 3.5 feet wide, and I think about 16 feet tall, so they were so incredibly tall and thin, they never draped well. Have you considered plantation blinds, roman shades or honeycomb shades that would fit inside the window frames? I feel like that would be a better solution, rather than one big, long banner.

You can re-use the metal posts to make a wooden fence by just adding new runners and pickets. We actually used chain link posts for our privacy cedar fence (see images here http://beforeandafterbrookside.blogspot.com/2010/07/finished-fence.html), and reused existing metal posts for a picket fence around our garden. We painted the metal posts black to look nicer, but the metal posts are actually better because they will not rot like wood posts do. We found brackets to attach the metal posts to the wooden runner at Lowes. A very easy, attractive, long-term solution!

I'm with ohkatie - I totally thought the dark sofa was ugly comfort and the light one with arms was uncomfortable style. I definitely prefer the lighter colored sofa, but since you currently have space for both I think you should keep both. The layout is nice and I imagine the extra seating is good when you have guests.

If you end up moving you can either decide which sofa fits the new place, or take crayfish's wise advice to sell both and begin fresh with a stylish, comfortable new sofa!
