It is so nice to see a small place fit for an adult. It is serious and elegant without being stuffy. It is the sort of home where you can cultivate your intellect and be comfortable at the same time. That is quite a feat for 475 sqare feet. Hats off to you, sir.

I should show this post to the folks waiting in line at my local food pantry.

Edible Spray Paint: Say What?!

I decided to let my little one pick our activities for the day. Her routine was disrupted all day yesterday because of Thanksgiving preparations. She kept tugging at my pants so I would sit down and play with her and I kept telling her, "Mommy needs just five more minutes sweetie." Five minutes turns into an hour so easily when you are cooking a big meal. So today we cuddled in our pjs and read stories during breakfast. She's napping now and I can't wait to see how she would like to spend this afternoon. This is much more fun than shopping. :)

1. Quickly scan each room to check for anything that should be put away.
2. Empty the dish drainer. Bonus points if the dishwasher is empty too. Then you can chuck stuff in there all during the party/dinner.
3. Get the music ready.
4. Spritz on some perfume.
5. Have a drink.

I have had wonderful success with a slow cooker. I have used both store-bought duck fat and rendered duck fat that I saved and both worked equally well. And really, duck fat isn't all that expensive, especially when you consider that you can re-use it to make the world's most exquisite fried potatoes.

We are doing a ton of laundry too! And drinking coffee. Candles, matches, water, flashlights, and ponchos ready just in case.

Why do we have to make a "thing" out of every event? People have gotten over break ups and divorces for eons without sending out invitations and registering at Crate & Barrel.
This is just bizarre. After shelling out cash for an engagement party, bridal shower, bachelorette party, and wedding, I'd be seriously cheesed off if I was expected to chip in for somebody to replace the crepe pan they lost in a divorce.
Besides, good friends always rally around when tragedy strikes anyhow. Give them the opportunity to give you love and support (and maybe a new egg timer) without suggesting it first.

People aren't mind readers. If you want the jar back, you have to ask. I tell people to keep the jar unless they want to give it back for a refill.

What a colossal waste of money and resources. How about figuring out how to feed people down here first? Maybe I'm just a cantankerous old Luddite, but it seems to me that we should focus on the terrestrial for a while. We don't NEED to send anyone to Mars. I think we need to prioritize and spend our money a bit closer to home.

Ballard Designs has similar accent table of much better quality for around $150. Sure it's more money than the cheesy UO table, but at least it won't topple over.

The painted risers on the stairs are absolutely adorable. Such a great idea. The decor is warm without being cluttered. It lets the really special pieces shine. Great job!

Before & After: Percy Freshens Up the Powder Room

We found a small parcel wrapped in newspaper and tied with string in the rafters of our house. When we unwrapped it, we discovered a deck of pornographic playing cards with images from the 1900s-1940s. The best part was that it wasn't a full deck! The previous owner must have kept a few of his favorites (ace of clubs? ahem!). We keep them in our china closet and pull them out at parties as a conversation piece. They crack people up.
