As one poster suggested above, the fence height restriction is from the ground. Where I live, we routinely berm the ground up to make the fenceline taller. Additionally, "trellises" (anything 'removable') are exempted from the fence height, so you can attach a big ole trellis to the top of a 6' fence. And, I recently saw a post somewhere (pinterest?) where the homeowner bypassed the fence height restriction by setting tall, skinny trees inside horse troughs on large castors (as a gate). In your case, getting some plant material out there might help with what is bound to be a lot of noise. Backyard Privacy Screen Ideas? Good Questions |

Re: "never understanding expensive furniture and home accessories" -- knock off makers have no money in concept, design, testing, finish selection, and all of the things that made it come to pass to begin with. Easy to shave some bucks off the price when you're stealing the design outright. And, close as some furniture, like the Urban Outfitters chair might LOOK to the Adler chair, sit in it for a few hours and you'll likely be wishing you had at least some of the more expensive components of said chair. @Pi, I have the Umbra Bird Bath shower caddy and love it. My favorite thing is that it has holes on the ends to put shampoo bottles upside down, slots for razors and hangers for washcloths. It's bigger than most of these, so holds a ton of stuff. I've had it a couple of years and no rusting so far on the few metal parts. http://www.umbra.com/ustore/product/bird-bath-shower-caddy.store# They have a wooden one, similar, as well. Loving the coffee/ebony mix. A lot. It's amazing how much better the space looks, compared to the lighter floors. Great job. Can't wait to see more of the progress. Maxwell & Ursula's Light Rental Reno: Floors - #2 Renovation Diary |

I second the Peekaboo line from CB2 mentioned by DallasStudent13. There's also a "console" that looks to be low and narrow, and on wheels. Or, two of the Peekaboo side tables (which look low enough to serve as coffee tables). Best Size for a Coffee Table or Ottoman in Tiny Living Room? Good Questions |

GIVE ME THAT vintage Swedish shelving unit. Actually, don't; I don't have the discipline to leave it all awesome and blank as you have. Great space, and really nice use of mirrors, too. Yvonne & David Are Starting from Scratch in Sunnyside House Call |

It does sound like you're being reasonable and kind. It also must suck for them to be stuck in a basement apartment that doesn't work for them. I agree with all the previous posters to invite them up to see what's going on, with someone else down to hear the noise level. They might be able to install some acoustic tiles to their ceiling to help. I also highly recommend the white noise option. How Do I Deal with Neighbor's Excessive Noise Complaints? Good Questions |

While the price does seem high, if one was doing a small accent area, the convenience of having manageable wood planks, and not having to deal with adhesives or many tools is worth a premium (to me). Looks like it's a huge time saver, too. I'd try it. Stikwood: DIY Peel & Stick Wood Planking Store Profile |

I have no cable, but installed an Apple tv box a couple of years ago. Love it, except it doesn't offer Amazon Prime there. So, just put in an additional (cheap) blu ray box that essentially does the same thing as Apple tv, and includes Amazon Prime AND Hulu Plus AND Netflix, among other things. Apple tv is good for wifi streaming of movies I own, from external hard drives plugged in to Airport Extreme in another room. I have DSL service, not high speed, so straight-up movie purchase downloads are excruciatingly slow. Streaming is usually fine. How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Streaming Video |
