we tried this when my daughter was born. my son was 19 months at the time. we didn't even consider the possibility that it wouldn't work... but it was a DISASTER! i think it all depends on how heavy a sleeper the older child is. mine is a pretty good sleeper but the baby would wake him up or she would wake him up and it would turn into a scream fest at 2 int he morning. we ended up having to put the baby in the living room which was pretty depressing. as a result we moved to the burbs where they have their own rooms now and if they want to share in a year or so (my brother and i opted to share until he was in 5th grade) then we will pop them into one room.
good luck..!

our only must haves were 4 bedrooms, walkable to town and train and room for expansion. we ended up with all that plus central air, charm, hardwood floors and a 2 car garage. i know a good (for me) house when i see one and we jumped on literally the first house we saw in the town. no regrets!

honestly... the only thing i found essential was the bouncy chair. everything else i could do without. really.

oh, except for the babies. i will keep them too. they are pretty cool.

my little guy became attached to his owlie at around 9 months... and now, at 17 months, he wants to be near him at all times. it's kind of nice to watch him grab his owl for a sniff and snuggle when he is feeling a bit overwhelmed... but nothing beats the mama/owl combo! oh, and we have 5 because i am paranoid we will lose some. i swap them out regularly and rotate them so he can't tell the difference in wear. so far he's snowed...

i am dealing with the same thing... my son will be 19 months when his sister comes along. we contemplated putting him into a bed so we wouldn't have to buy a second crib... but seeing how the gulliver is only $99 we figured we wouldn't rush it. i want him to be as comfy as possible during the transition and he loves his crib. when the time comes we will take off the side and it will be a toddler bed until the kids are bunk bed ready. i think it depends on your kid's disposition... you will know what is right.

i have the M coat which has a zip in, V shaped panel. you can wear it pregnant zipped one way, with any sort of carrier zipped the other way and when you are all done with that sort of stuff you can zip it without the panel and it looks like a normal coat. it's made in canada so it's super warm. it is pretty expensive, about $400, but since it is so versatile i thought it was worth the splurge.
the problem i found when wearing a baby in the winter was going in and out of places... my baby was instantly broiling and would let the world know it! with the jacket you can just unzip and you are able to control the little person's temp (and your own!)
good luck!

oh, and about the cosleeper's mattress... they really don't notice. i swear! think about where babies will sleep... on you, the couch, in a car seat, etc. the mattress is just fine and in the early months you really want a super firm surface in order to cut down on YOUR sids worries. at least that was what i found.

we use a cosleeper and i found you don't really need a crib until about 4 months or so... but i would recommend one. i found the transition to crib went smoothly and i think (but could easily be wrong!) it was because we would have our tiny guy nap in the crib after about 2 months. then he would go down for the night in the cosleeper next to the bed. we are doing the same with baby 2 due in march which means i am going to have to go buy another crib...! i think tiny will still be too tiny for a big boy bed. i think you also can't really tell how long you will want to have the baby in your room with you. we ended up putting the little guy in his own room LONG before i thought i would... that first night was the best night sleep any of us had in months! good luck and congrats!

i live in brooklyn in a 4th floor walk up and i have the p&t (soon to add the doubles kit) and an uppa baby g-luxe umbrella stroller. we live in a building where there are 3 other kids and so people are pretty forgiving... i don't fold both of my strollers, just the one i haven't been using.
the p&t isn't very small folded and honestly it's a pain when you have a kid and stuff to lug up the stairs. when number 2 arrives i will most likely park the p&t outside all day (locked to the gate) and then just bring it in at night. i think i will most likely carry number 2 until he/she is about 4 or 5 months old. then i will add the doubler.
anyway, try to score an apartment where you can leave the stroller (whichever one you end up with) downstairs. it will make brooklyn living much easier!
and welcome to the hood!

the husband, the pug, the black cat and i all sleep in a queen sized bed. there used to be a grey cat there too but he has gone to the duvet in the sky. often there is a 5 month old baby in there as well. there isn't a lot of space but i wouldn't have it any other way. i have never worried about the pug and the baby... they both know they are loved and get along great. i think if the pug had her way she would sleep in the crib with the baby... but that's going too far!

so bland! i'm all about hot pink if that's what your kid is into but really... a sad metal table and a little wood stool? white carpet? very imaginative gwynnie. i would love a crack at it - i'm sure with her budget i could come up with something a million times better.

i just got my Bottom's Up drinks table and i have to say it was worth the price! it is unique and so useful in my quite small apartment. i have managed to "need" it every night since i brought it home.
the wall relief is indeed part of the collection and is beautiful in person! i saw it at the Kip's Bay Showhouse. i love the sofa as well but can't rationalize it's price at this time. (not to mention it won't fit into my apartment.) the other thing that i wish would fit into my life is the Hourglass table - really beautiful.
and yes, $800 for a single pillow does seem a bit excessive but it is hand embroidered and hey, you don't have to buy it!
