I think there is both great design (the mauve stripe is so soothing!) and great solutions in this makeover. You went a long way on very little, and did a great job "styling" for the AT photograph. I think it's a beautiful little space, and it's just a laundry room! I'd be tempted to put a comfortable chair in there and just hide out, but I'm kinda weird and hidey like that.

I love this. It's so fresh and creative and uses color sparingly and expertly. The bed really steals the show in all the right ways--it looks like a bed you'd never want to climb out of.

This is amazing. I think it looks like it's worth $500 from West Elm. It's a gorgeous job, regardless of where you started.

Just a thought experiment: how do people think a project like this would work with white on the outside and wooden drawers?

I had the same safety concern, but I just looked up temps of LED bulbs (not old timey ones!), and this site says that there's a range of about 107-167F (f, and since paper burns at 451F, that seems like a pretty safe buffer zone.

I feel refreshed by the writing in the article alone! The organizational feats are amazing, too.

I just got a Sultan Elsfjord--it's thin latex. It has one of the highest satisfaction rates on SleepLikeTheDead.com. At first, it was REALLY firm, and it took a while for my back to adjust after having had a really terrible spring mattress for years. Then, sleeping was like a dream. I ended up ordering a high density memory foam topper a little prematurely (while it still felt really firm), which is nice, but not really necessary unless you like it cushier. I kept the topper thinking it could extend the life of the latex mattress and would thicken up a thin mattress to make sheets fit better. Anyway, I highly recommend the Elsfjord.

It was not my intent to be negative! I feel strongly about the issue of unregulated chemicals. As a part of the AT community I felt that sharing that this product "may be neurotoxic" would be helpful and informative for readers who might not be aware that there is this resource to help them be more informed consumers.

I don't agree with sportzz101 that it is bad karma, unless you had promised it to someone then changed your mind. Just think of yourself as someone who is interested in the piece. If you do have the time, as others say, to at least get a cushion and clean the fabric--sit with it for a while (literally and punnily). If you don't find yourself falling in love after a month or so, let it go.

Oh, I see that that's not the actual set. Well, missing drawer advise aside! It looks like a decent set.

It looks like the dresser is missing a drawer. I recently saw something on AT that pulled out both top drawers and filled them with small baskets (maybe some plywood could give a base if they space is open on the bottom).

I know this is a boring suggestion, but after you decide what aesthetic you want to pull off, go on Amazon and add up the cost of all your materials plus *your time* (seriously, pay yourself at least a hypothetical $10/hr) so you can compare against the price of Ikea's least expensive furniture.

I think free furniture is hard to turn down, and with a little sandpaper and paint these could be redone to fit into as something as far off from their original style as shabby-chic.

I love this. I love the color with the gloss. I'm crazy about the lion head drawer pulls too. If it were my desk, I would have pinched my pennies a little by doing one lion head in the center and simple gold pulls along the side. Seriously gorgeous transformation. Nice work.

Um, I still love unicorns, but I've channeled my love into more subtle things (like a vintage quilt with teeeny unicorn prints and a smallish figurine tucked away in the kitchen. No one would ever notice, but it makes me happy.

I really hope this doesn't come across the wrong way, but I LOVE how the proportions of this room and its furniture are totally wacky. It seems like it would make you laugh all the time. But it would also make you feel like really small--like the room practically swallows you in cozy.
