My husband snores like Fred Flintstone! I'm happy for the tips. Until he gets checked for sleep apnea or buys the insert, I'm making do with earplugs. On nights when I happen to be trying to fall asleep while he's snoring, I'll turn the opposite way on the bed, with an extra blanket, and that does a great job of reducing the sub-woofer rumble of the mattress. An extra pillow over my head helps too. :P

Jesus in a jetpack, if you're deciding between warm gray and cool gray, it DOESN'T MATTER. Pick one. If you don't like it, do it over. No one else cares if you get it wrong the first time.

I agree the "after" chair looks terrific. But to play devil's advocate, I see amisdottir's point about painting over the wood. It's not extruded woodpulp like Ikea furniture; it's actual carved and/or bent wood. Just because it's brown (like the floor) doesn't mean it's ugly. Sand it down and refinish it to preserve the labor that went into it; don't paint it to look like plastic. How about a compromise--pickling?

I count five spices. It sounds good though, and I would try it for a twist. I usually just S&P, even on the corn-fed salmon.

At Costco about 10 years ago I bought an enormous (natch) roll of white butcher paper that's lasted me through 2 creative kids and several buffets and cookie-decorating parties. I probably have several dozen yards of it still to go. And yes, like Faith said, it makes good wrapping paper too.

Can I just say: WOW. Y'all are totally awesome. I WISH I had something weird in my house. I'll have to mummify my cat or something. I have a friend who keeps dead critters in her freezer for study and as models for art. Ooh, I do have a nice cow skull I bought in San Antonio and I hope to do something creative with it someday.

It's healthier perhaps if they're organic apples, but if they're not, better off peeling them to begin with and throwing away the skins, because they're saturated with pesticides.

Everybody's already said what I wanted to say, including the advice to cremelda and the big thumbs up for the Caps. Using one book for all the frames means the palette will automatically work for all the pages. I have one framed Oz book page, and it's only because it was torn out of the book by someone else: an original Emerald City of Oz color plate printed with metallic ink. If you're going to sacrifice a book, please check the publishing info and make sure it's not a first or rare edition!

I haven't had a problem with dry chicken breasts, but I'll try this method all the same. What I would really like is some help with pork chops (especially the super-thick ones from Costco). I'm about to give up on them. Anyone have a fool-proof recipe for that?
@ robyn: I think the theory behind salting meat prior to cooking is that yes, it leaches out some juice, but then juice + seasonings get sucked back in later in the cooking process, flavoring the meat.

On the couple of times I lost count between 4 and 5 or whatever, it was at the end of counting, in an "am I done yet?" manner. So I added just 1/2 measure more. Whether it's too little or too much, it's by not as great an amount.

It looks fabulous on the stairs. I like when it adds a little bit of architectural interest when there otherwise is none; or when it's historically accurate. The dark borders in the first image make the room look cartoony.

This is such a coincidence; I've started weeding a 2-foot stack of Sunset and BH&G today. Like Joli, I tear out recipes and specific articles I want to save. I'm also tossing the jewelry I've kept since the '80s and several moves. (Why??) Next come books (I donate them to Friends of the Library) and baby toys. I like to use Freecycle to get rid of larger items, so I don't have to haul them myself.
