When in doubt - look on the internet first before going any further.
When my Husband and I installed our IKEA kitchen there were a few times the instructions were too vague or something just didn't seem quite right. Using Google to see what others with the same problem did was a big help! My impatient husband ruined a few things while I was at the computer but he has learned for next time.

Another big help was having the right tools, like a specific blade to saw fancy wood finishes and a glass tile blade for the back splash. They are a more expensive but it saves from having to buy more material when mistakes happen.

I planted tomatoes last summer in the community garden and I did not get to eat a single one that was ripened on the vine - they were all stolen. I've tried tomatoes on my balcony but things don't do well there. So I rely on my mom for having lots to share.

The tv is nearby so during dinner time I listen/watch the news or MASH reruns.

When I spend lots of time in the kitchen, like on weekends, my music is playing on random, ranging from Nine Inch Nails to Dave Matthews Band.

I've added chipotle peppers. Yum!

I never add olive oil though, if I need more liquid I use lemon juice or some of the "water" from the can of chickpeas. Tahini is a definite must for hummus, it is just ground up chickpeas without it.

I like to see my food and whether or not the meat is cooked. I hate eating in restaurants with dim lighting. At home I may light a couple candles on occasion, but there is also some other source of light.

I chose not to have any fine china on my wedding registry, I picked some nice everyday stuff instead.

I have access to my Grandma's and my Mom's fancy stuff if I ever need it, but it is a little too frilly for my tastes.
