I love the bookshelf dedicated to cookbooks. One day I hope to have something similar ...

omg, what a unitasker.

I have a Rubbermaid butter dish (I use it upside-down, with the "dish" part on top as a lid). Works great, keeps butter fresh and fridge smells out.

It also has the advantage of accommodating the "standard" size butter we get west of the Rockies.

I do this all the time, ESPECIALLY when I eat out somewhere that has fabulous sauces (like tapas). I'll even ask for more bread and ask my water/waitress to leave the plate until the sauce is gone!

Then again, I identified with the bit on the Simpsons where Homer asked Marge to get glass plates so he could still watch TV while licking off his plate. I'm not the most mature. :) lol

My husband (then boyfriend) decided he didn't want to be "that guy" who ate frozen dinners all the time. A friend gave him Bob Blumer's "Surreal Gourmet." Later he picked up a copy of Blumer's "Off the Eaten Path." They're both really approachable, fun, and surprisingly useful. We still cook recipes (long-committed to memory) from those 2 books, twenty years later. (Geez, now I feel old!)

We have one of those fridges where you CAN'T switch the handle (but you CAN move the hinge! seriously, wth?). It came with the house. And it opens into the DINING ROOM! I have to walk around the open door all the freaking time. I've seriously considered moving the hinge and just opening the door by grabbing it by the edge.
