I have a beautiful lucite waterfall table, a lamp and a large lucite frame. My tip for cleaning is DON'T use windex. Windex will cloud the lucite. Just a wet washcloth will do. I haven't had any problems with scratches. Quick History: Lucite Retrospect |

We finally gave up and built a screen porch on our back deck so we can be "outside" in peace. It is worth the cost to not have to struggle with mosquitos from now until eternity. A sleeping porch is really a must in the south. Beat the Mosquitoes: Our Best Tips & Tricks Post Roundup |

We had a similar challenge with our last apartment. We had and expedit in the living room and since it is only about 12 inches deep it didn't seem too overbearing. The key for bedroom storage for us was keeping things in attractive bags (we went with vintage luggage) that could be out or stacked without looking bad. Gym clothes always stayed in a gym bag and bulky items found homes in cool looking suitcases. Adding Storage To An Already Full Bedroom? Good Questions |

Remember that it is as much about shape as it is about color when it comes to making a room cohere. I have a 5x5 expedit in my office with a mission oak desk and an industrial metal cabinet. None of the pieces are the same color, but they share a similar squareness. See if you can work on blending shapes as you add accessories. How To Balance Dark Wood Furniture With IKEA Pieces? Smell in humid DC summers is also a concern. If the unit is deeply discounted it sounds like it has been an issue for someone in the past, but a discounted apt in DC is a gem and if you love it maybe you can find a way to deal. You are never going to find the perfect apt in the city. I live in a practically perfect 1 bedroom apt in an old (but sound proof) building from the 1920s. I have great neighbors, hardwood floors, big rooms and the best view, but I still get noise off of 14th Street to the point where I can't open the windows. I deal because everything else is just right. White Noise Machine or Keep Looking for Apartments? Good Questions |

My father and I got entangled in a sneaky rearranging ritual when I was in college. On breaks I would come home and arrange all of my books in alphabetical order by author's last name (I worked at a library) and while I was away at school my dad would rearrange all of my books according to height. This went on for several years until dad finally won by installing a bookshelf with different height shelves that necessitated organization by height. Sneaky Décor |
