I'm 38 and only recently got my own cell phone. It is a pay-as-you-go phone and I mostly got it so that my kids' school could contact me in case of an emergency while I'm out doing errands. We haven't had cable in 10 years. It is one expense we can definitely live without. Of course, living in Chicago, we can get 10 channels in English and a few more in Spanish.
