The base is also made with plumbing pipes. You end the larger pipes going towards the ground with a "T" connector. Attach two 5" pipe on either side of the "T" With an elbow. Then attach a connector pipe which is simply threaded on both ends to the elbow and then to a flange which rests on the floor as the sturdy base.

It's similar to this base: http://ny-image0.etsy.com/il_570xN.208785144.jpg

Hi, this is Mike (creator of Other Blog and contributor for Unplggd).

Thank you for featuring my clothing rack. I'd be happy to answer any questions if there are any.

Hi, my name is Mike. I'm a writer for Unplggd and also was proud owner of the first studio featured in this article.

I don't have much time to address everyone's comments individually but I will say that nothing in that room, aside from the computer, was paid for by my parents (yes I paid my extremely reasonable rent myself/with the help of a student loan). I come from a very typical middle class family, I got a decent college job that I worked very hard at during my off time (I was a full time student). Everything was purchased used on Craigslist. To give you an example of my discounts, I got the Bertoia chair (authentic, vintage) for $35. The couch for $200, coffee table for $60, etc..

I was definitely not your average college student. I don't do drugs/drink/party or whatever. I'm a designer and I surround myself with what I love. I took immense pride in my space and I think it paid off.

I have since graduated in May and sadly moved on from that apartment which I had lived in for 2.5 years. I'm now living and working in NY.

I'll try to address any particular questions people have for me but please refrain from instantly jumping to rude and accusatory conclusions that the owners of these apartments are spoiled.

@akatsuki: That is extremely surprising you were disappointed with the Bisley construction. The model I handled felt very sturdy... quite strange.

@lex2190: Thank you! The bag is absolutely stunning in person. It is handmade by Etsy user Sidney and Sons.

I highly recommend the bag if you're in the market for one.

@Janis, thanks for sharing your story. I haven't even heard of this free year offer. Very interesting. And I agree with you, I believe they will probably have made some revisions to their tier a year from now.

The NY Times Paywall & How to Avoid It

Niche,

I believe the NYT is technically going by 4 week increments which might account for the math? The numbers were pulled directly from their article:

"$15 every four weeks for access to the Web site and a mobile phone app (or $195 for a full year), $20 for Web access and an iPad app ($260 a year) or $35 for an all-access plan ($455 a year)."

I see you have a nice view of the Gehry tower. Can we hear some thoughts from a neighbor on the design? I'm guessing it interrupted an otherwise open view of the city so hopefully you like it.

(Your place looks very nice, by the way. Quintessential modern NY.)

@gregory: I tried several DNS's, including Google's and other local ones to no avail, unfortunately. But again, it is odd that the stream quality with my Blu-Ray's Netflix is perfect (on the same network config). I wish you continued luck with yours!

@minimalist1750: As far as repairing/replacing the unit itself, it seemed a bit overboard for a $99 device when so many other options were out there. I decided I should buy a Blu-Ray player anyway so I can play my Netflix DVDs.

I'm very glad other people have had success with their ATVs and I recommend everyone take this review with a grain of salt. I don't mean to say that all are bad, but after some careful research, it seems like a lot of owners are experiencing this issue. And since I certainly would like to be aware of this issue before I purchased mine, I wanted to bring it up with the Unplggd community.

@Rckmnr: My praise of the design resides in the physical device itself as well as its digital user interface. Somewhere within the software is the flaw which is a shame. I love the damn thing!

WiFi, but it was showing a full signal. Additionally, my new Blu-Ray player is connected through the same WiFi and I've had no problems.

That first image is pure beauty. It takes a real talent to create something so relaxed yet elegant.

Hats off to you.

@ eeka: You're over simplifying my instructions. Firstly, when I speak of eBay and Craigslist, I'm referring to their sales model. I wanted to introduce a new avenue for getting rid of a wide variety of possessions as efficiently as possible. Yes, I recommended that once the blog is complete, people use Craigslist as one of many ways to promote the site. I've made one Craigslist post since I began my blog. It doesn't need to be entirely dependent upon CL as its only source of traffic. Out of all my sales I've made, about 25% or less have been thanks to the Craigslist listing.

@ KFitz: that is exactly right. So far most of my deals have been in person, but whenever someone would like me to ship something, I quote them on the price, they pay me through Paypal, and I ship same or next day depending on my schledue.

You're correct — it is very simple and quite fun actually. It is much more personable than eBay and strangely enough, Craigslist too. People have been much more conversational with me during our exchanges. I think people can associate with this unique way of selling items, so they're more open to talk about how they stumbled across my site, or what they plan on using the items for.
