I really like the house and how the cats were incorporated into the design. They're very cute.

I agree with not having a lot of stuff on the counter top. It makes the bathroom look cluttered and it takes more time to clean.

I put my hair stuff in a rectangular plastic basket and also have a container that holds my daily makeup basics. Makes it easy to use and put away quickly in the cabinet. Less used items are stored in the linen closet.

Olderworker: For cleaning the toilet you could pour a bucket of water in the toilet to lower the water level and then try scrubbing the toilet with Barkeepers Friend (can buy at Target by the other cleansers like Ajax). It works great on stains. I've also heard that the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser is good.

It was drilled into us when I was little to turn off the lights when we left a room. I just do it automatically. For the kitchen I use fluorescent lights and have one that's on a timer, so there's always light in the evening, and I don't come home to a dark apt. You could either install motion lights or use a timer on a small lamp, wall sconce, or hanging pendant light in the bathroom or bedroom that has a 7 watt CFL for evening use. That way, there's no need to turn on a light and the energy use is minimal.

A friend had a Booda Dome. His cat would pee against the side of it and it would leak out (and the lid was on correctly). I use a hooded box with the top of the hood cut off. This way I it has high sides but not confining. Older cats can't always squat down as much so the higher sides help keep them from peeing over the side. After having older cats with arthritis I recognize the need for a litter box which a cat can easily step into.

Whenever I have to clean up any grease/oil, I use a damp cloth or sponge and baking soda. I'm always amazed at what it'll clean that other cleaners can't. I use it regularly to clean my metal tea kettle that always get splattered with oil. It's great to clean kitchen cabinets, counter tops and refrigerators too.
