interesting topic. i used to be anti-showers for babies beyond the first, but then i was pregnant with my second and my friends insisted on some type of shower/celebration. in the end, we decided to do a sip and see after the baby was born. we didn't know what we were having and ended up having a girl, so it was fun to be able to show off our new baby to a small circle of close friends and family and while gifts were not the expectation...it certainly was fun to receive some cute little girl clothes since she had been wearing mostly her brother's hand me downs! i've also heard of second shower's being called "sprinkles"...not a big over the top gifting event, but a small event to honor that new little life.

now that i've been through it i say to heck with that old ettiquite of no showers beyond the first. ALL babies deserve to be celebrated - it's not about the gifts, it's about honoring the new little life that is about to be or has just been born. now who could take offense to that???

someone just gave me a great tip on how to muffle the sound of obnoxious toys - get some puffy paint and put a dot of puffy paint in half (or more) of the speaker holes! i'm going to give it a whirl in the few noisy toys that have been given to us...and yes, i do let my kids keep them and just ensure that i rotate them in/out periodically to go along with the open ended toys that we buy for them!

i have to agree with whoever mentioned getting a condo or house rental. we use vrbo.com for all of our trips now and it is SO much better then staying in a hotel! often it's cheaper as well.

we just got back from a 4 day vacation in san francisco and we rented a 1 bedroom apartment for $150/night in the marina district. they even had 2 pack and plays for us to use for our 8month old and 2.5 year old. we feel so much more a part of the city of community we are visiting this way also and it gives us so much more flexiblity for meals, sleeping, etc.

i'd put this in my son's room - he'd LOVE it!!

I'd take the chocolate brown one and I would pack: gdiapers, wipes, change of clothes for my boy, a snack for me, a toy and a book, clean well hand sanitizer, hooter hider, my blackberry, my wallet and my car keys.

this would be so great in our house!

I'm 12 days overdue with our first baby and will be induced tomorrow - would love to win this for our boy!
