It is Jennifer, the painter, again. Just want you to know I am happy to do 1 or 2 room jobs. Prefer to work in Ben Moore or even better, Farrow and Ball paint. Will pass on my contractor's painting discount to you.
By the way, if you look up to the top of your wall and see a slow fade to a lighter color - bad paint job and a Manhattan classic from what I have seen. That is a painter who rolled on one or two coats (if you are lucky) and then cut (meaning corners and edges that have to be painted by hand) once, can look ok for awhile but then it fades. So always ask to have two coats, both rolling and cutting, whether you go with me or not. With me, that is a given and I will roll on an extra coat if there is enough paint; more coats, richer, longer lasting color.
Another thing: you have a new condo? They usually spray them with one coat. Feel the walls. Not smooth? Looks kind of pointillist up close? You may want a better paint job that protects and seals the wall, particularly in the kitchen and bathroom.

My windows have plastic (yes, plastic) frames which are so bad it is surreal and the building is crumbling away around the frames. I have actually had SNOW DRIFTS INSIDE around the north facing windows in my bed and bathrooms. (Its all glamour all the time here in NYC.) I have done everything listed above but the best thing ever was when I discovered spray foam, available at any hardware store. They even have foam that expands a lot for big spaces or a little for small. Exciting, fun and easy to use!

Check around your window for any cracks or even tiny holes. Granted, some of these can be caulked but if there is a breeze shooting out that can make a flame flicker get that foam and spray. Any that extrudes back out can be easily cut away once the foam drys. You'd be surprised at the voids around window frames in old buildings. I used two cans on one window alone and now the place is so much warmer.

The only thing that would lessen the pain of having to throw out my Nana's unrepairable torqouise Princess vac from the 50s would be a fancy gold one.
