Love, love, LOVE the backsplash tiles. Gorgeous, especially with the beautiful marble countertops (did the contractor fix that seam problem? I can't tell from these photos). Very clean, streamlined look with the cabinets. I kinda agree with the folks who question the gold knobs, but that's a matter of my taste -- and it's YOUR kitchen! Seriously, a terrific job. Enjoy!!

@Bee for Brian and @MrsLupinski ... Your kitchen descriptions sound wonderful. Do you have any pictures online to share? A girl can daydream (I just moved into a rental that has a huge kitchen with wood cabinets, but they're all stained the same medium shade of brown -- and that won't change!) ...

Raina, I think it's gorgeous. Speaking as a renter myself, I'd love to have a place like this! Definitely not cookie-cutter -- and I agree with you on easy maintenance. Tenants don't want to have to call the landlord every week for something else that's falling apart! Excellent job redoing this. Your tenant is very lucky to have y'all for landlords!

@pegling: I've been eyeing the queen-size version of that bed. Do you have any experience with it -- or does anyone else here on AT? I like its height off the floor (not so much for storage but for kitty play area!). Thanks!

I switched out shower heads in my last place 6 times before I found the one that worked for me. And when I got the right one in, I kept one of the ones that didn't work so well ... so when I knew I was moving to my current place, I switched them and will be installing my beloved rainshower + handheld combo. ($50 at Sam's Club!).

Yep, there's something to be said for "fly-over country" when it comes to costs. I'm leaving Dallas at the moment, but I was paying $750/month for a three-bedroom house in a safe (but not hip) neighborhood -- about 1,200 sf, w/d hookups, decent kitchen, original mid-century teal-tile bath (!!!), driveway (no garage but off-street parking) and spacious closets/storage. I'm moving to a small town in Oklahoma, where my rent is going up to $800, but I'm going to be in one of the nicest places in town -- an 1,800sf, three-bedroom duplex with high-end finishes, stained concrete floors that my cats won't be able to damage or destroy, top-notch kitchen with tons of storage and a two-car garage. If I'd ended up on either coast or even in Chicago, I'm not sure I could have afforded it!

Can I echo the LOVE for the purple bedroom? It looks luxurious, lovely and totally relaxing to me! And what a wonderful selection of cat accessories (especially Pete himself)! Also adore the Surfer blue in the kitchen. I rent, but the next time I paint a piece of furniture ... :)

Absolutely marvelous home! Love everything about it -- especially the critters. Two questions, if you don't mind: 1) Where did you find the primitive/folk cat painting? and 2) How do you keep the cats from eating your plants??? I've (sadly) given up on plants inside the house, but if anyone has hints for how to keep them from chowing down the greenery, it would be most appreciated! Blessings on your creative and beautiful home, ladies! :)

Pearmelon's sister (in crazy-cat-ladyness) here! ;) I have a great cat-sitter who's one of the techs at the vet's office -- and she leaves food and water out for the outdoor strays I feed, as well. Ask at your vet's office; the techs probably could use the extra income as well. :)

I have cats (gee, bet you'd have never guessed that!), including one who's diabetic and won't allow anyone but me to give him his insulin shots when he's home. So I usually take him with me when I travel or board him at the vet's (he's more docile there than at home) and get one of the vet techs to come to my house daily ($15/visit) when I'm out of town. It's a pain, yes, but my cats are part of my family. I have friends with dogs, but nobody who's "into" cats, so I stick with the techs.

Me, I don't know what to think. I lived in one house for 8 years that started out with a clock flying off the wall and crashing across the room as I was moving in. After a couple of weeks of things like that, though, nothing more happened, and I never could find any record of anything happening in the house to account for spirits and the like.

On the other hand, many years earlier, I lived in an apartment where absolutely nothing occurred only to discover when I was moving out that a rather grisly murder had happened there about a year before I'd moved in (a newspaper photographer who was helping me move took a look around and said, "I've been here before!" -- then wouldn't tell ME why till the move was done!).
