I like to hide my valuables at the bottom of a box of tampons. Burglars are more likely to be male and from my experience, anything related to feminine hygiene tends to freak guys right out. Of course, you probably wouldn't want to leave a box of tampons hanging out on the porch either...

I have no problem with barbie, but I think this one is trashy. I'm a big fan of the "I can be a..." line. In fact, I've already got an "I can be a computer engineer" barbie put away for my 1 year old daughter. She's got a pink laptop and a blue tooth headset. Now that's a toy I can get behind.

Our 4-year-old recently started playing Portal with my husband. He loves it, and it's a great way of getting him to calm down before bed-time.

Last weekend, we were out and tried to go into a building but the door was locked. Our son turned to my husband and said, completely serious: "just make a portal!"

Makes me glad we haven't been letting him play any violent games.

I love the Little Tykes Pop Tunes Big Rocker Guitar. It plays instrumental versions of well-known pop music ("Crazy Little Thing Called Love," "Message In a Bottle," etc.) that are actually decent to listen to. On top of that it has a volume control and an on/off switch.

It's probably one of the few toys my son has routinely played with. Whenever kids come over to our house, they always gravitate towards it and their parents always comment on how it's not obnoxious.

Here in the New England area, I've found wild geranium and sedum to be very hardy. Also (and rose purists are going to hate this) I've have a bunch of double red knockout roses that have done really well with zero maintenance. I don't prune, fertilize, etc. and they bloom profusely from May to October.
