I just ran into the problem of "how much is too much" for eggs at the local farmers market here. I just moved to the Boston area from New York, and am finding that markets are much smaller and have less variety than I'm used to in nyc- the local market here only has one egg vendor (organic) who sells eggs for $7. I find, tho, that I don't care if the eggs are organic or not, but I do want pasture raised bc they TASTE better, and I'm willing to pay up to $6 for that, but I'm not willing to pay 3x the grocery price just for organic eggs. Should Ibe?

I bought a wok from the wokshop this summer and it came with seasoning instructions saying that the wok was coated in a wax that needed to be removed by filling the wok with water and 2-3 Tbsp baking soda, boiling it for 15 minutes and then washing well with soap and scrub brush before heating it up with some oil and alliums (onions or garlic) to season it.

I almost bought that Nigella Lawson set on amazon a couple years ago, but someone on AT had bought it and said it hadn't held up at all- i.e. was chipping and peeling after only the first few uses, so I left it alone. I'd read the reviews on amazon carefully before buying it.

There are so many other farmer's market apples that never make it onto most grocery store shelves- why not introduce people to a great apple that we've never heard of, while also celebrating an apple that we've all eaten since we were in 2nd grade (with peanut butter of course!)
I've been eating a lot of Stayman's Winesap apples, for example, and they're a little sweeter than Granny Smiths, but they've still got a nice tart bite to them. I cut them up and eat one in my oatmeal every morning!

How do I SEARCH?!! I have half an old pizza dough written down sited as theKitchn, but I can't find it in the browsing section and can't search theKitchn for "pizza dough"! This change is welcome, but I suspect that the transition will also be slightly traumatic if I can't even find the search bar! HELP!

there are two ways to keep it from being a mosquito breeding ground: one, you get a fine mesh screen (like window screen) that will let water through, but not bugs or larvae, and cover any holes with that, or Two, just keep a couple goldfish in the tank to eat whatever bugs come in to lay eggs, and whatever eggs actually get laid.

I don't have Stalking the Wild Asparagus on me right now, but it has some instructions on how to build up poison ivy immunity in it. I've never done it myself, but here's a blogger's summary of Euell Gibbons' instructions:

"Another cure, though I've not personally known anyone to try it, came from an old Euell Gibbons book I once had. He recommended that people who live in highly infested areas of poison-ivy and need to work around them all summer long should build up an immunity to them by:

"(If I remember right).... when the very first signs of poison-ivy leaves appear in spring, just out of bud-stage, you should eat 3 of the leaves. Then in (was it the next day? 3 days later?...) you need to eat three more leaves which have now grown a bit larger. Basically, you eat three leaves each day (I think) as the leaves grow, until you are actually eating three grown leaves. Eat them as the plant grows them. By the time you've eaten a grown leaf, you are immune, but ONLY for that year."

this is dreamy-- I didn't think I was going to find an apt in this year's contest that I loved or that would inspire me as much as in years past; your apartment disproves that. Absolutely lovely.

seriously, I hate when you guys post these AWESOME things, that I TOTALLY need (I'm getting to the point of really needing to buy myself an iron, and I'd rather buy one that'll last forever, than one that'll only last 2 years) and they aren't even in production. drives me crazy!
