Upholstery Obsession: Online Sources for Home Decor Fabric

I have a good friend who works at Spoonflower and the company as a whole is really legit- everyone there loves their jobs, loves fabric, and gets really exciting about crafting. Plus the fabric itself is great quality and there's about a bajillion different prints already!

I really want to do a cost analysis breakdown of how much you'd have to pay yourself per hour to make this in order for it to actually come out cheaper than Anthropologie but it would involve charts and graphs and whatnot.

By my calculation, if I could make this in less than 12.5 hours total, then I would theoretically be saving money by making it myself. However, as cool as it would be to make it myself, I think it'd be a hugenormous PITA. Maybe if you got together with three of your best friends who all wanted one and spent a Saturday sewing squares while watching girly movies and then gave everything to someone's grandma who really liked to quilt.

Seconding blackrose: it's GREAT to see something fresh and different! I am loving this house- it has plenty of personality but it's still functional and comfortable. I like the bathroom a lot- it looks like a spa, not a modern western one but an Eastern European one. There's a guy behind the door waiting to hit you with birch branches kind.

My parents live in a very moist house, so they combat it frequently. Vinegar solution works, but the best way is to get a steam wand, like you'd use for clothes. If it gets hot enough it will kill the mold.

I LOVE this! I think it's very challenging to take a large space and divide it up while still keeping things open and airy. And what a wonderful place for an artists' studio!

Another option would be to take it to a lamp store and see if they have any suggestions. My aunt runs a lamp store in Raleigh, NC (has for the last 30 years) and is a wizard with lamps. So a lamp shop might either know how to finagle it so that it works, or they might have some European fittings running around in the workshop.

I love the variety of things that are on the NoVa Craigslist listings, but I am SO HAPPY that someone else shares my irrational hatred for misspellings, crappy (or absent) photos, and complete lack of acceptable price points!

Hooray for moving on! I totally agree with "Do I feel good when I look at this object?" It took a long time to get to the point where I realized that if it didn't make me feel good, it needed to go, no matter who gave it to me or how much I paid for it. I think that's the first step to turning a house into a home- making sure it's filled with what YOU want, not what someone tells you that you want!

@Christa, really? Think back to like, second grade when you got to glue Popsicle sticks and make houses and stuff. Same thing! Plus if you go to a craft store I'm sure someone would be happy to point you to a good base to use for the wreath and some good glue. Never let the "I can'ts" keep you from trying something fun!

Is that just a mirror or a medicine cabinet? If it's just a mirror, you could probably make some square paper shades to hang on the wall over the light bulbs out of some balsa wood strips and some pretty white paper. Another idea would be to take the bulbs and a picture of the lights to your nearest home improvement store and track down someone in the electrical department- I have found that a lot of times, employees are happy to help someone figure out a solution to a conundrum like this. Another option is to get a socket to plug converter and get a lamp that you can mount over/around the mirror, then plug it into where the socket is and come up with a creative solution to hide all the wiring.

WOW! I am weeping that I live all the way out in souless Reston and praying that one day I'll have a city apartment as cool as that!

I love all the touches of bright colors balanced by the black furniture, and the light colors used to balance everything else. I love how you've got Ikea stuff but that it looks sophisticated and intentional and not "Oops I need a TV console better get a cheap one". This is seriously one of the BEST house tours I've seen and I love everything!

Although, that towel rack/cabinet looks like it's puking blue terrycloth :)

The problem with the stick-on stuff is that if you have windows with six panes each (like me) that are old and not square (like me) it's a GIGANTIC pain in the butt to cut out the individual persnickety piece for each little pane. However, the matte medium idea is FANTASTIC, thanks! I know what I'll use in the kitchen now!
