Craftsmen are usually dark in spite of how many windows they have. I do not like the use of black paint over the original wood. So much black and brown looks depressing to me.

I make jewelry and no matter how many times I clean off my desk, a new storm appears! Once I did shove everything into a box but it was months before I got around to organizing it. But now it is the most organized space in my apt.
When I was a kid, my mom always said I never put anything back where I got it from. I guess she's still right!!! Stuff just seems to accumulate out of thin air!

It had much more character before. I would have left it as is, and added a bright yellow (or blue) pillow for the top.

The before was absolutely depressing, the after is absoluteIy stunning! Love the courageous and imaginative use of the colors. I also love the boards on the walls. I would never have conceived of those options! Bravo!

I have a collection of totes that I've always used for shopping. The sturdiest of the bunch is made of canvas and lined, with sturdy wide straps. It can hold a substantial amount of groceries, and I load it up lots of times at the 99c store too! It's perfect for when I don't want to lug a shopping cart on the bus.
Then I have a pretty pink (plastic) one that I actually purchased at a 99c store, that hold quite a bit of groceries when i put it in my mini shopping cart. It eliminates quite a few plastic bags.
I did use plastic bags a few years ago to make myself a "tailors ham" for sewing. I'm using some now to make myself a "arm" for pressing when I make garments and need to press the sleeves.

Oh, how I would love to eat meals the "European' way. I'm a naturally slow eater, and I think having an hour or more to sit with friends and eat would be just lovely. I think it would be wonderful to not need to be so money driven (as a society)that we can't even take time to eat a leisurely meal instead of wolfing it down in our cars on our way back to work! The "American" lifestyle is killing us all!
I live alone, and so I eat alone, and in front of the tv, which is my almost constant companion, but don't feel bad for me, I enjoy it. It's on while I make my jewelry, while I'm working on my computer, and sometimes while I read a book its just background noise.

For the snobs who "don't watch tv", there are interesting things on tv, like decorating shows, cooking shows, history, nature, technology, and on the Public broadcasting stations, sometimes even opera! How can you rule all that out?Its all about what you chose to focus on.

Good tips here! The only yard sale I ever had was over the fourth of July weekend. I thought it would be great because everyone would be on holiday and have cash to spend.
It was a nightmare! I was trying to make money and one lady chose a 3 pc pantsuit, belt and shoes and wanted to pay $20! I was so insulted! (Silly me!) I told her no, and no one else even showed any interest at all. The only thing that sold that whole day was a set of canisters of my sister-in-law's, which I sold for $4 or so while she had stepped away. Well, she was thoroughly annoyed at me, she had intended to get more!!!!! She also wanted to sell a set of tables for $200 which were about 30 years old, rough hewn wood, like from the 70"s. My brother and I were hysterical at the thought that she wanted $200. We figured she'd get maybe $25. Long story short, we had to drag everything back inside, and eventually donated it all!

I know its the most practical thing in the world, but i hate hooks and coats hung on walls, just looks sloppy to me. I like the idea of a slim wardrobe/covered clothes rack.

An open closet would make me crazy, so would an open cabinet kitchen.
And totally off subject; how can people wear so much black clothing, I know its a New York thing, but its depressing. Color is life! Life is color!

Interesting post! I love sweet tea,(southern ancestors, lol!) Never thought of using unliked tea in the bath, good idea, esp if you like the scent.
And I don't think of it as "fobbing off" unwanted items on co-workers, i think of it as not wanting to be wasteful. And btw, I don't do it, as i work at home!
