Lovely. Though I probably would have eliminated the gap as gwgg said (hello dust bunnies and lost toys...). It's hard to say from the angle, but I might have continued the unit as a bookshelf under the whole window for continuities sake.

Julia, your list makes much more sense to me! Your list has actual small, concrete tasks... thanks.

Anyone who can vacuum their whole house or clean a bathroom "top to bottom" in 10 minutes doesn't know how to clean. Gross!

"Floor bed"? Why does everything have to be named (i.e. commodified)? It's a mattress on the floor, people.

One thing to keep in mind is that your nursery furniture doesn't have to come from a nursery-specific source. Looks for rugs, lamps and bookcases everywhere.... it'll save you money and the items can be used elsewhere in your home/ life after the kid grows up.

Also, it seems like your bedding is pretty busy/ pattern heavy. All the more reason to go basic with the rest of your items....

I don't get a hanging bed like this unless it's in the middle of a room, away from all walls. What's the point of a hanging bed if it can't swing around? The sheet rock at the head of that bed is going to take a beating!

I don't think that this article is aimed at parents who pick and choose what works for them and occupy a middle ground.

Rather I think that she is talking about parents (whom I certainly know personally) who use AP as an excuse: to not work outside the home, or focus on anything but their children, or to not discipline them-- and back it up with pseudo-science.

And then the AP parents in turn make other parents feel badly, by getting all preachy/ judge-y, when the truth is that they're simply searching for rationalizations for their own choices and insecurities.

This is based on what I've seen it happen in my social circle and I think it's bullsh*t.

This is such a great idea! It seems perfect for kids that age. I love the mock charging of the hill...

Anissa said that she feels sorry for babies with their own rooms. I felt that was judgmental and, yes, mean. People's experiences are varied and unique; I took offense at what she said about mine.

(An aside: I cant believe I was chastised via a Taylor Swift song. Wow.)

Anissa, _your_ babies were happiest next to their mom. You, on the other hand, are clearly happiest right next to your sense of self satisfaction.

OMG who picked the front door color? Ack.

But the house is kind of neat I guess... I would be a tad worried about resale value, however. Not because it's modern, but because of the "only door is on the bathroom" thing. That seems short sighted.

I love that the AP crowd keeps saying to "follow your gut"-- when they are following a very prescribed set of rules themselves. And I say this as a someone who co-sleeps... I just hate a Parenting Philosophy that requires rigid adherence to a set of rules and regulations. Those ALWAYS strike me as a money making scheme for someone...

I wasn't saying that you needed a photo of the stairs alone... but a photo of the room with the stairs or upper level visible would have been nice to give some context. After all, the entire description is how the playroom is awesome cause it's sunken. A close up of a dog sitting on a stair doesn't really illustrate that.

And yes, wow, a lot of toys.

very cute, love the details, but this is a pet peeve of mine-- it's ALL detail shots. Why is there no establishing photo of the room? I have no sense of the layout, size, etc.

Again, I think that she didn't spend her own money, it sounds to me like the film production paid for the place ("With a very limited independent film–scale budget..."). That's the way something like this would normally go. I'm not sure if that makes it worse or better...

Just because you CAN spend money on something doesn't mean you should.

How long was she in Nashville? Seems like a lot of effort and money (borrowing art, redoing a kitchen, custom monogrammed pillows for the kids...) for a temporary home. Especially for the "indie film budget" she references-- i.e. it sounds like the production picked up the bill for this one.

Maybe a little "make do" spirit would do this family some good! It's not like an electric stove is equivalent to living in the car.
