I think the Hex side table by West Elm might work. You can add three together for a larger surface but separate them out if needed. http://www.westelm.com/products/hex-side-table-g669/?pkey=ccoffee-side-tables&cm_src=coffee-side-tables||NoFacet-_-NoFacet-_--_-

I started using the Freedom Filer System a few years ago and it works perfectly for me! I must admit that I didn't buy the stuff from them - just used they idea of the system and things I had around the house already. This system is a huge time saver for me - http://www.freedomfiler.com/Home.cfm

Pottery Barn used to sell velvet drapes in a shade of pumpkin years and years ago. I have the matching pillow:) Try an ebay search.
Definitely agree with ALYSSA.RAE

I would demolish the planter completely and plant directly into the ground. This planter was not designed properly and will just continue to cause problems no mater what you do.

This looks so fun! I would be concerned about my grass, so I plan on using spray chalk instead (found in the spay paint isle of most home improvement stores). I believe they use marking chalk on football and soccer fields - not spray paint.

Love your room!
I agree with most posters - high, wide and white.
The white will tie in nicely with your rug. Since you are not very comfortable being "interior decorators", the white is a great neutral that will allow you to experiment with colour and pattern in other areas. It's easy to add pillows, throws and accessories that add texture and a lower cost.
If you allow, I would suggest hanging your art lower and closer together or centered in a 2x2 pattern to accentuate you great ceilings.

Love the change!

As an architect specializing in renovations, I can tell you that "code" only applies to newly constructed elements. It does not include decorating choices. Although this stairwell does not meet current code, it does not have to. Nor would it have to be amended for a sale. Building codes changes regularly. A building built ten years ago doesn't meet current code.

Try Room and Board's "Slim 30 Round 16h Cocktail Table" or the "Classic 36 Round 16h Cocktail Table Base". Can't beat the price and size of the "Slim" line for a quick update. But, I agree with most - paint the legs of the current table and spend money on the media cabinet.

Check out the wonderful collection of pendant lighting from Room and Board - many fabric choices and prices that work:

If using a colourful pattern for the shade, you could pick up on that for the chairs. I think it might add a lot of interest to the room without changing any of the things you already have in the room.
