I would definitely say a super-colorful, your-style 5 by 7 rug, not any smaller than that. Maybe a plant in one of the corners? And I would (personally) be more excited to get something up on the right-hand side wall than on the forward-facing wall. It is just such a giant empty space! Good luck!

Also, if it's your style, a colorful or dramatic tablecloth might be an easy way to add interest.

Ideas for Dressing Up My Dining Area?
Good Questions

Haha I have done major overhauling this last year, due to a move and finally devoting time to finding furniture I actually like! (As opposed to whatever was cheap or someone gave to me.) Just about everything is from Craigslist.

Chaise lounge (in place of a sofa): $500, Craigslist
Recliner: free, gift from my redecorating aunt
Cat post: (yes this lives in my living room) ~$100
Coffee table: $300, Craigslist.
Baroque ornate style mirror: $74, Craigslist
Glass end table: $15, Craigslist

Dining set: $380, Craigslist
Baby grand piano: $3300, Craigslist

Tatami mat bed with thin pillow cover: ~$1100, new
Leaning bookcases: $150ish, Overstock
5 ft. by 6 ft. ornate gold mirror: $375, craaaazy amazing Craigslist find!

Handmade bookcases from England: $800, Craigslist.
Computer desk: $15, WalMart

Basically, I have a mix of inexpensive items (like the WalMart desk) and high-quality stuff from Craigslist that the original owners spent a fortune on.

Doesn't look comfortable at all... and for the commenter who was wondering, I for one take baths every day to soothe sore muscles!

Is anybody else (psychologically) worried that the bookcase situation in #1 looks unsafe/scary?! I guess it's somehow safe and supported, but it certainly does not look like it...

Five Strategies for Storage Under the Stairs

I love this part: "... the creation of home is something that we develop over time. Those skills stay with us. Which is to say that your home is a path, not a place. It’s something that you do with aspiration, it's an activity that never stops. It will help you learn, grow and change over the course of your life."

This really resonates with my life recently. I moved into a great condo that my husband and I love, but it has hardly any storage space--a problem when we were so messy with tons of storage space before! Adjusting to our new place over the last 10 months has forced me to grow by going through all my belongings, organizing, learning to be a responsible adult! It has been a rough year, but totally worth it now. I love my home!

Apparently I'm in the minority here, but I think the chair is gorgeous! I would not have thought anything of it if I saw it in a friend's house... just that it was a cool lounge. And it looks really comfortable... as compared to my (very) firm bed, which is great for my back to sleep on, less great for other things. The chair looks like it would be really great to relax and read on.

I particularly like the second picture. Re: the subject in general, I think I'd like it in a large, minimalist master bedroom situation, maybe with a half wall hiding the toilet... but of course not for a guest bathroom!

I actually love this! The simplicity is refreshing. And I appreciate the vantage point afforded by the "fisheye" view. Details I love: the chandelier in the living room, the curtains in the living room, the dark bathroom tile style and color, the arched ceilings, and the shower. The walls are bare for my taste--either more art or a paint job in a color might be nice.

Beautiful! Love the big bedroom, especially the flooring. Love the white kitchen--very bright. I've been thinking about painting my kitchen white, and this definitely clinches it.

Tooootally jealous of the WD in the closet. This is going in my dream home someday!
