I've already pulled out all my vintage quilts ready to snuggle up once the cold weather hits us here in Ottawa.

I love decorating with old maps. I use them for wall art, to cover storage boxes, even my office trash bin is covered with map wrapping paper.

Wow, another great idea for recycling old books. I guess I'll be busy this weekend.

It's okay if you have the time to make it. But is it worth it??

I like the mirror. It would be easy enough to do if I had the time. David Stovell makes stuff similar out of newspapers but his stools could easily be made from magazines.

A bed made from galvanized pipes was featured in either Country Living or Country Decorating magazine a few years back. Instead of boards for the base, it used more pipes. I have the plans if anyone wants to make it. They also featured a table made from these pipes but with a wooden top.

Have you tried posting them on Freecycle, Gumtree, or Craigslist? Also try a Best Buy store to see if they will take them. I sold some of my excess cables, usbs, and power cords on Ebay. Check with your local city maintenance to see if they have a Bring it Back program listing local businesses that will take these items off your hands.

I used a similar idea to create a work desk when I was a student - two night stands I picked up on the trash day and a door I found at a building site. I still use the desk in my studio.

This looks like it would be a great gift idea for someone in hospital or similar situation. It looks like it doesn't require much maintenance at first. Over the long term, I don't know. Still, a brilliant way to recycle old light bulbs. I used to recycle burned out light bulbs into Christmas tree ornaments. Just cover with a fabric remnant and tie on with a ribbon.

Kids would love this project with adult supervision, of course. But I know my daughter will enjoy growing a whole bunch of seedlings this way. Neat!

Neat idea. I use an old door that I found at a building site as a bulletin board in my studio. Makes a great headboard too.

I once saw an vintage quilt made entirely of old silk ties. If you sew and have enough ties, that might be a great project.

I agree with Enamorada - a paper grocery bag does the trick just as easily and can be placed in the paper recycling bin with the newspapers.
