I grew up on a farm that had been in the family for 150 years. My dad was born in the house I grew up in...and my grandfather committed suicide there, in the kitchen. We never really talked about it, and I don't think it particularly bothered anyone (my father was in the military at the time so probably didn't see the aftermath).

After my father's death, my mother sold the farm. The new owners called her a few months after moving in and said they had heard someone died in the house and wanted to know the circumstances as they were sure the house was haunted.

I helped an older woman write her memoirs. At the time she was probably in her 80's and would have these great dinner parties. but she had an alarm clock ticking away in the kitchen. It would ring after an hour and a half at which time she believed "if it was a good story we would have heard it by now...so it's time to get out". And there was no dragging those parties on...she really made everyone get out. and everyone loved her for doin it her way.

my mom's side of the family play's christmas bingo.

Everyone brings a $10ish wrapped gift. All gifts are put in the middle of the room. Everyone gets a bingo card and a timer is set for 1/2 hour - 45 minutes (the bingo set has been in the family since my mom was a kid). we go around the room each calling a number from our card- this way everyone gets 3-4-5 bingo's during the game. getting a bingo means taking a present from the pile..or from someone else.

We all laugh together during the game, and the gifts can be serious or fun. Because you can take them from others, each year there is one gift everyone wants, either because it's heavy, weird shaped or rattles.

One year the heavy gift was just a huge bottle of listerine. We all still laugh at how many people wanted that present.

I have driven by this place for years and will often sit in the idling car wishing it were mine....I had no idea it was your home, I thought it was a business. Love it! The outside photo's don't do it justice..the inside photo's make me happy; I couldn't have imagined it better.....

Don't do it! I got rid of grass for pea gravel a couple years ago. 2 years out, the 30yr professional weed barrier that I laid down under the gravel, lets the weeds through all over. Pea gravel is round and thus hard to walk in, yet small enough to stick in the soles of your shoes -so it is everywhere in my house and car.

Additionally, it always looks bad; leaves and debris get stuck in it and are hard to rake out...and your feet leave divets that need to be raked weekly. This fall I'm planning on pulling it all out and going back to grass.

nice place. I'm also from stl and wanted to direct you to a new antique store in my neighborhood: cool stuff, real cheap. It's at Virginia & Bates right next to Iron Barley. Not as well stocked as TFA, but GREAT deals on MCM...
