Another question, kind of related to the poster about putting these on a sloped area- what about over cobblestone?

Are they reusable?

I agree, this is a child's room and therefore, not too close to the ceiling. It is probably rather cosy for a little one! I love the white-washed IKEA bed.

As an American living in Europe, I find some of these comments totally offensive and ignorant. There are millions of Americans who do live in large cities and in very small spaces. I do not think that the generalization is accurate that we as Americans feel entitled to more and biggers spaces. I agree with the poster who stated that the reason we like more space is because it is what we are used to. I also feel that if someone chooses to and can afford (within their means) a McMansion that is their choice, though it may not be mine. While I can attest to the fact that after growing up in the suburbs of the states in large homes all of my life, it was VERY difficult to move into a 50 sq. meter apartment. However, that experience helped me to realize that less can be more. I will be honest and admit that I still do not like the miniscule fridges that are in most places, I now see that an industrial size fridge is not the solution either and drying racks look terrible in the middle of your living room period. One final comment to 'SpotOnEarth': you are entitled to your opinions about Americans, however, bear in mind that this very website that you are reading is based out of the good 'ole USA and perhaps you should consider that your comments are offensive to many readers. What I love about Apartment Therapy is that there are readers, bloggers, interviews, houses shown from all around the globe and the majority of the international population that contributes to it add positive, interesting and creative ideas, opinions and experiences without being offensive.

I am sure that you live in an older building and yes, black mold and mildew are hard to get rid of, but I, like others here couldn't help noticing it.
One trick for cleaning plastic shower curtains is to have a spray bottle with white vinegar handy. Spray curtain from time-to-time which acts as a natural sanitizer

I really think that your home looks lovely as it is.

I hate open kitchens into dining rooms.

I love that you have two spaces now.

Please, leave as is...

Dear Lydia,

I completely agree with you!

According to etiquette, one should not be 'showered' for second, third, fourth babies. The reason behind this is that it appears selfish and as a 'gift bid'.

Sadly, many people do not think about the fact that etiquette is for a reason. To me nothing is tackier than people having their own showers hosting them in their own homes!

I believe that the other people's comments regarding celebrating the other children are valid, but what about giving a lovely gift once the baby is born?! There are other ways to celebrate babies.

It is also very tacky to say 'in lieu of gifts', afterall the diapers would be a gift.

Personally, if you feel so strongly, I wouldn't attend the event. Once the baby is born, you can visit and be supportive with a gift that you feel is appropriate.

I love that so many people offer interesting solutions and even offer names of paint colors as well as other projects. Unfortunately, outside of the US, Canada and Mexico the paint products that you list are unavailable (i.e.rustoleum). The best that those of us can do living overseas, is to take a paint swatch of the color suggested and attempt to have it matched.

Help! Ugly Rental Kitchen Needs a Budget Makeover

After reading most of these posts, I am floored at how cheap most rents are in the US. Obviously, excluding NY, DC, Chicago and California the rents seem very reasonable. If I could, I'd rent cheaply and save up a big downpayment on a home or condo.

Totally agree with the comments about the practicality of this 'book nook'. The shelf is far too high and could be a danger if a child were to stand on the bench to try to reach a book.

I had a wide window seat as a child where I loved to read; it was wide enough for my parents to sit and snuggle with me as they read to me as well.

Some other ideas taken from classroom are a reading garden, a reading pool and a reading pen (as in animals). Anything that you can do to make reading more appealing is a great way to encourage kids to curl up with a book.

As a teacher myself:

*No mugs!
*No bath salts, creams, lotions,etc!
*No cutesy figurines (knickknacks)
*Nothing with an apple theme
*Don't agree with the bag idea either

As many other teachers have mentioned, that as a teacher what we most treasure is a thank-you from the parent or the student if able to write. I have saved every single letter and they are part of my professional portfolio.

We don't expect or even want gifts, but we do appreciate a parent's gratitude whether in writing or verbally. I cannot tell you how much of an insult it is, to spend nearly 9 months of your life teaching, guiding and nurturing a child to never have any recognition on part of the parent.

If you really want to give a gift, I think that gift cards are the best to bookshops or coffee places!
