My parents used to make these for me when I was a kid. They had a stovetop cappuccino maker/milk steamer. It was a great treat on a frozen New England day, especially because I was rarely allowed sweets.

I'm not seeing the problem. At all. Though my little one would be just as happy with the coffee drink.

My youngest sister worked at a fancy grocery store throughout high school and college, and the (mostly wealthy) customers would come in and wrench the stems off the portobello mushrooms before bagging them. Talk about cheap and petty. I agree with previous comments; let's call stealing stealing.

All the sweet recipes on Pinterest seriously gross me out. I mean, I like the occasional dessert, but have no interest in marshmallow fudgey clusters with rainbow sprinkles, gumdrops, and edible glitter no matter how marvelously twee they look.

I do like pinning recipes however, as a sort of edible to-do list. Most of my recipes are light and savory.

I also eat the corn/quinoa pasta. I'm not positive it should count as a whole grain choice, but I can no longer eat whole wheat pasta. (Wheat causes inflammation for me.) I do concentrate on limiting my serving sizes of pasta, and try to indulge only once a week or so.

I never saw the point of this. I rarely eat dessert anyway, so I have no particular desire to twee up the few treats I do make in these silly jars. I mean, if one wants to replace ramekins with jars, great. But I fail to see how it makes the dessert served any more special or original. It makes everything look like baby food, anyway.

Limeade with ginger juice is also wonderful. Grate a bunch of ginger and press the juice through a sieve. Add to a strong limeade and dilute with water and ice.

I lived in Florida for years, and we prioritized stocking up on water. Next, we chose foods that didn't need refrigeration. Instant soups, peanut butter, granola bars, instant cocoa. Now, this food was neither particularly healthy nor particularly tasty. However, in our part of Florida a storm would mean no power or running water for a minimum of two weeks. Everything in the refrigerator rots, the grocery stores get cleaned out, the interior of one's house is at least 100 degrees. Our only viable option would be to leave and say with relatives or someone else who had power.

I hope the East Coast won't face the long-term power outages and water shortages we were used to, but I agree that the focus should be on getting calories in for a week or more. Hiking/camping food is right. However, while appliances are still working, it is smart to use up some of your fresh food if possible.

You can heat milk until it foams, then mix it with strong coffee or espresso from a mocha pot for a decent approximation. I don't quite have the knack of using my mocha pot, so I tend to go for the strong coffee. In the winter, I sometimes add a little vanilla and some pumpkin spice powder.

My parents once rented a house with faux-brass plate covers featuring bas-relief eagles rising above the switch, and excerpts from The Declaration of Independence engraved on them.

Yes, they swapped them out.

I don't think this idea is so bad, but then I'm allergic to gluten and too busy to fiddle around with bizarre cake recipes trying to come up with something that will work for a party. I don't think I've had a birthday cake in years due to my allergies, so I would give this a try. It looks pretty, it's festive, and I don't really care that it wouldn't be taxing enough to count as effort. However, I would have to search to find good-tasting Neapolitan ice cream.

I'm attracted the vibrant colors and sense of whimsy. I do wonder how a household with children can keep all that fabric free of spatters and grunge, though.

I hearted this one.

I lived in Japan over a decade ago, and, at the time, knew several young unmarried women who had their own apartments. I also knew women who chose to live at home until they married. The latter seemed a common choice, but not the only choice.

I don't understand the comments about how a female-only apartment building or living with one's family is a protection against rape. Most rapists don't break into one's home. As well, the "low" rate of sex crimes in Japan seems suspicious to me as I was several times the victim of aggressive groping and molestation by strangers while in Japan. I expect that Japanese women choose to live with family for reasons that relate to the high cost of living and traditional expectations rather than due to a fear of rape, as living alone is not likely to change one's risk in any dramatic fashion.

As far as classes, young Japanese women seem to take classes in many traditional arts such as flower arranging, the tea ceremony, and even wearing kimono. I had the impression that such skills made a woman more eligible for marriage, at least in the rural prefecture where I lived.

Beautiful entryway! I also love the bold paint choices and that pink chair in the bedroom. I understand why people are not in love with the original detailing in the kitchen, but I appreciate that the homeowner made it work with her style. It's not as if it is always easy and affordable to refit an entire kitchen. Sometimes people have to work with what they have.
