Big props to Joel for sharing his place with us. Does he have a lot of chairs? Yes, of course, but that's exactly the point. He loves and collects them.

It's definitely not something that you walk into a DWR and drop $20k and walk out with a collection. It took him years to amass, all the while learning and appreciating them for what they are.

This is exactly what I've dreamt about, but I have so many questions for you. How much was the land? How do you get to the island? How long does it take from Vancouver? Are there building codes? Is your property on the water or inland? Is there anyway to contact you directly? Best, Jeff

I think they're having a sale now. I've used their glass tiles a few times, they're beautiful but tricky to work with. I don't recommend installing them yourself.

I shouldn't talk having 16 Eames chairs, but they're all different, except the dining chairs and they all have a story. Some I found at thrift stores, two I sanded paint off fiberglass, some I traded with friends. But they all seem to work together, in a 1200 sq/ft condo.

That being said as my aesthetic changes and evolves I find my self moving towards less well known designers. As well as up and comers. For me the issue usually comes down to cost. I'd love to get a set of Moooi Smoke Dining chairs, but not at $1800 each. I bought 6 Eames padded side chairs for $20 apiece, and they look great.

What is great about the vintage Herman Miller stuff is it's still relatively inexpensive. And well-designed furniture will always work in harmony with other well-designed pieces.

I agree with moepong. Sand then Penetrol. If the scratches are deep you could start with 150, 220 then finish with 400. I don't think you need to do anything after applying the Penetrol, it's a nice finish as is.

One more thing, make sure you where a mask and old clothes and a long sleeve shirt. Sanding fiberglass is nasty, gets everywhere and it's scratchy.

Genious! I'd love to give that to some of my relatives to wrap their newborns up in. Isn't anyone getting the irony?

They had an installation contest and one of the categories was residential. Some pretty good ideas: http://www.3-form.com/best_installation_contest-view.php

Living Etc. is definitely fantastic but I think Inside Out from Australia might even be better. My order would be: Inside Out, Living Etc., Vogue Living Australia, Elle Decor UK, then Houses (also Australia). It's weird I subscribe and read Dwell every month but I've lost the excitement and anticipation of getting a new issue.

I agree with the poster who suggested buy vintage and use Modernica bases. I also think the Herman Miller chairs are crap. The main reason the chairs are desirable is the use of fiberglass in their construction. Without that they are just plastic. And I also think the Modernica chairs are really, really nice. I typically never buy knockoffs, but in this case the Modernica chairs in my eyes are the real deal. It's like buying a Nelson clock from Vitra. They just don't have the official license. By the way the deal the Velocity guy is offering is great.
