This room rocked my socks off! Absolutely stunning!

I might be the only one to say 'Leave it'. I think it's dated and would cost a small fortune to reupholster. I love a vintage find as much as the next gal, but this doesn't seem worth the effort and expense to me. Whatever floats your boat, though!

I love the print above the mantle, why not take a cue from that cool blue in the centre? The browns, creams and pops of red in your space would look lovely against a robin's egg blue. If the robin's egg is a little TOO blue, maybe try a blue-grey shade?

Obviously, it's best to have both function and comfort eh? His couch is definately sexy but I'm with you. Comfort trumps style for me every time. I think you're not doing that beige bad boy any justice in this pic. It's not a big investment to buy some colourful, graphic cushions and a throw to make that comfy couch shine. Maybe your next apartment will have space in another room for your man's couch-that way, it doesn't have to be a goner.

Lovely space, but I'm wondering what else could be done with the TV? Seeing a TV plopped into the corner of a room, beside a fireplace, is my pet peeve. I'm trying to think of clever options for my own place.
