Yes, it's been done a lot, and I find it adorable every time. Things like this become trendy for a reason - lots of people like it.

I've been wanting to do this party since I first saw the idea and I'd still love to do it. My first two children are girls. But a few months ago, I had a baby boy and his name is also Levi! He will definitely be having a "manly" party for one of his birthdays (maybe not the first one though). Its may have been done a lot, but never in my circle of friends, so it's novel to us and our close ones. And who else really matters in this case?

I think that the more you try to "match" the focal painting (by using colors from it in the room), the less it will stand out which would be a shame for such great work. I would try using colors from the opposite side of the color wheel (reds, yellows, oranges). In moderation, course. Paint the walls a crisp white (maybe it's my computer but they look beige/gray to me here), leave the sofa as is, add a solid burnt-orange rug, some sheer yellow curtains, and whimsical patterned/printed/embellished red/orange/yellow throw pillows on the sofa or drape a colorful throw across the arm or back of it.

Where can such a long and simple bolster pillow be found? I've been looking for one to span the width of a twin-zed bed. Thanks!

The idea is very sweet - but what if you move in the next 18 years? Life is unpredictable. I like someone's suggestion to bury in the back of a closet instead. If you're set on burying something in the ground, maybe plant a seed for a tree on the day of her birthday so you can watch it grow along with her over the years? Video tape her helping you plant it (digging the dirt, pouring water over it) and include that video in the time capsule as well.

My "quirky living alone habits" really haven't changed since moving in with my husband. In fact, he seems to prefer they continue and enjoys the show if I should suddenly decide to bust a dance move. We're perfectly comfortable engaging in whatever behavior/dress code that we want in front of each other. I'd say it's changed more not with couple-dome, but with parenthood. While the kids delight in mom and dad's "crazy" antics, we wouldn't really start installing hardwood in the middle of the night like we used to.

I don't think there's anything wrong with the expression of opinion be it positive or negative. This contest was a "design contest" and not a support group to get validation for your efforts. I post certain questions and entries on this site because I genuinely want the constructive criticism of design-minded people whose opinions I've come to value and trust. I had an entry in this contest too, which was exciting in and of itself. I obviously didn't win (nor did I expect to), but I was so interested in the feedback I got, the negative as well as the positive.

I think it goes without saying that all these rooms were created with love for some very special people by those who love them most. That's not the point of this contest though.

Thank you for the kind comments. I really value the feedback from this community.

psychobabble: the mushroom dollhouse can be found at online toy store Magic Cabin

Vicky19: the framed outfit (the one she came home from the hospital in) is in a shadowbox I got at a local Michaels. The backing is covered in fabric to which I pinned the outfit with white glass-head sewing pins

How is this different from parents making little "mini-me's" out of their kids in other respects, like having them wear favorite rock band shirts that the toddler obviously doesn't understand or even making them actively participate in activities that are near and dear to the parent like camping.

I think this is cute. A hefty price tag always makes it a bigger deal, but parents wanting to instill in their kids parts of themselves and things that hold meaning to them is just part of parenting. Yes, cars are a materialistic thing, but it means a lot to some people. Why not use is as just another opportunity to expose your kid to another thing that you find of value? Are you a more shallow adult because you drive the real version of these things? Possibly. But not necessarily.
