I've been snacking on fresh pineapple at work the last couple days. SO delicious! I use the same cutting technique. http://wp.me/p2FRFd-4I

@elris That sounds AMAZING! I dated a Puerto Rican man for about a year and although his family made awesome food, his mom was secretive about her cooking ways so I never got to learn. :(

I just made a big pot of pinto beans last night.

Congrats on your new piece! I love my dutch oven, although I have a cheapo one which I need to replace asap. I use mine to make everything from chicken cassoulet to ratatouille and I love putting yeast dough in it to rise. It's a super useful tool and you're gonna love it!

When my great grandmother came to the U.S. from Mexico, she worked as a nanny to a wealthy German family and kept an amazing notebook of recipes and traditions, tips, etc. that she learned during her 20+ years of working for them. Since I am the only family member from my generation who cooks, my grandmother, who had been keeping the notebook after my great grandmother passed, handed it down to me about 5 years ago. It is very tattered and several pages have torn off, so I told myself I would cook through it and digitalize it. That has been on the back burner, but Nikki's resolution has re-inspired me!

What's a ballpark range of the cost of a restoration? I have a vintage Wedgewood that I love to look at, but have not gotten around to restoring.

Yesterday was Dia de los Reyes, or Three Kings Day, in Mexico and to celebrate, I made a cake that is traditionally eaten on January 6th throughout the country. It was my first time making it and I had fun doing so, plus my family loved it! Check it out below:

Joelfinkle - I agree with you. I love the taste of lime on almost everything. I find it much brighter than lemon.

I just made steel cut oats in the crock pot and loved how easy it was, how delicious and creamy they turned out, plus I have a quick breakfast to grab and go for the entire week. I added cinnamon, raisins and brown sugar to mine.

I had an amaretto sour with an egg in it at a bar recently. The bar is a dive, but is known for serving great cocktails. My hubby ordered my drink for me and the barman asked him whether I'd like to try it with an egg. I wasn't around to answer and my hubbs knows I'm adventurous, so he went with it. It was airy, frothy and absolutely took the drink to a new high.

The most delicious scrambled eggs I learned to make from Chef Gordon Ramsay. His method is similar to the one described above, but requires constant stirring on and off the heat.
