I do have a dishwasher and though we run it at least every other day, I am stingy about what goes in it, meaning plenty of hand-washing. I HATE doing dishes, but my iPhone, Netflix or Hulu, and a $1 phone-propper-upper (technical term) have seriously saved the day. I sit my phone on the counter, safely away from water, and catch up on my shows while I clean.

I love the colors and really love the garland! Is it made from cut up tees?

Anyone know if you can do this wish "pseudo-buttermilk" (milk and vinegar)? I don't have buttermilk on hand and I wanna do this NOW! Also, as someone else asked, will you have to redo it every season, and how would it hold up to a heavy rain?

Guess I'm in the minority here... not my taste at all. Feels cluttered to me; I can't really focus on anything. But, to each their own! Obviously they, and plenty of others love it, so what do I know!

I rarely take a shower every day (better for your hair, better for your skin, better for my sanity, etc etc) so that makes it a bit easier. I tried showering at night, but my husband and I only get a few hours between work and bed so I'd just rather spend time with him! I started showering or bathing with my son a while ago, and since I now have a newborn daughter, that's definitely the easier solution- for us to shower while she naps or just lays happily in her crib. Sometimes I'll put my son in front of a movie instead and that works too, but I wouldn't have even attempted that 6 months ago- he would've been into EVERYTHING! This works best for us right now, but by no means is it perfect and it's a struggle constantly. I agree with another commenter, that it feels like a waste of a nap! I'd much rather waste time on Pinterest!!

How's a New Mom Supposed to Get a Shower?

We buy refills and use the same container over and over. In fact, I recently mod podged the container with some cute fabric and plan to use that sucker til it breaks! I'm thinking that a mod podged container will be my go-to baby shower gift; hopefully encourage them to reuse as well!
Using them as drawer dividers is a really good solution though!

This is officially my first attempt at bread baking and I am super excited! My loaves are rising and so far everything is going great; I'm wondering why I haven't tried it sooner. Can't wait to cut the first slice! Thanks so much

I love this and also don't understand the anger it's evoking! I really like to make store bought stuff at home, like american cheese, because then I know exactly what's in it.

LOVE THIS! I hope the paint holds up for her too; I'm a bit of a pessimist about painting plastic and other such 'difficult' surfaces. This looks so amazing! From your Flickr photostream, I'm thinking you did take it apart to paint it? I have my old metal and plastic Fisher Price table and chairs to makeover, but I can't find a good example! I guess something like this will have to do for inspiration!

A few months ago I wouldn't have hesitated to start the dishwasher on my way to bed, but after reading a few different stories about fires that can be started by appliances (even "wet" ones; I never really thought that would happen) I try to never run it overnight. If something were to happen, it would not only block our way out the door, but also keep us seperate from our kids rooms! Scary thought
! I am however aware of peak energy times, so I try to run the FULL dishwasher when I wake up in the morning, then try to do any wash before the peak hours start at 1pm, and only run one appliance at a time. I think that has substantially kept our energy bill down. The tip about running at night having a lesser effect on your a/c is tempting, but for our safety I'd much rather just turn on the kitchen fan.

I really need to trust myself more! I've been seeing these sporadically on Craigslist in my area, but I start second-guessing myself that it may be "too grandma-y" or "too country" for my house. These examples are perfect for convincing me that I absolutely NEED one now! Haha, thanks for the constant inspiration!

I painted a few bottles like in #5, and they look really cool, but in at least one of them the paint has started to crack and sag. Maybe I didn't use enough paint, and I know it's just a quick and cheap (ei: not permanent) project, but I was still a tiny bit disappointed to see it.

Nice tip for overuses, I suppose, but I feel like I use even less than a Tbsp when filling my sink to wash dishes. I use Seventh Gen. Free, and have an ample amount of soap to clean a sink full of dirty dishes. The best tip I know of (though not exactly the most eco-friendly one) is to use water as hot as your hands can stand, to kill all bacteria and germs. Then I use cold to rinse... and tip for rinsing I read somewhere: you never need more than a pencil width flow of water to rinse anything (including hands), if you do use more it just goes unused down the drain. So those are the things I try to follow, but I am also spoiled with a dishwasher :)

Quick Tip: Use Less Soap For Cleaner Hand Washed Dishes

I made my own cake (only to feed our bridal party) along with 2 "fakes" to create a stacked look on a tiered cake stand. The actual cake was chocolate with peanut butter (hubby's fave and his grandmother's recipe), but since the look of peanut butter icing didn't exactly "go", we covered it (and the other 2 fakes) in fondant... beautiful result, but awful tasting and a b**** to work with. Not at all worth it! But the cake itself was lovely, and the fakes were able to be made about a month in advance; the real was made and decorated a day or 2 before. I would say you don't need to be a pro, at all!, but you do need to know your limitations and don't underestimate how crazy busy you'll be the week of. Enlist someone(s) to help (one of my bridesmaids went to vocational school for baking and worked at the bakery of a grocery store, so she knew the basics), have a backup, and be willing to use it if things aren't working out or you get overwhelmed. Currently, I'm helping put together a 60th anniversary party, and I'm desperately hoping I can help make a beautiful (simple and rustic) cake, instead of just buying a sheet cake!
