I love the table, chair and overall styling of the vignette. Beautifully done!

I love the project and if you are looking for perfection, then go buy it. Isn't the whole idea of DIY about experimentation and creating something with your own 2 hands that you will love? As evidenced by your history of comments SleepyDog, you have issues with everyone else's work so clearly you just like to complain. I would love to see you rather than be snarky, give feedback on the piece about how it could have been done better esp. since you mention you are a woodworker. Share your knowledge rather than beat people down....

I appreciate the effort and love the pattern of the paper. I also appreciate that you weren't wed to the idea of a piece being too "precious" to make it fit for you and your family. Wood furniture elicits such a wide range of reactions from people but in the end, you created a piece you love and works for you so BRAVO!

Holy shazbot - some of y'all can really dish out the snark. So the execution wasn't what you would have done but she clearly indicates she doesn't quite like it either, so it's a moot point to point out the obvious. However, I do applaud the color selection -- I think the chevron pattern is a bold choice and the yellow base is really nice improvement over the original base.

I love that this post has sparked such debate among the AT community. Who would have thought that paint and shelves would have such a long-playing dialogue.

Our table only seats 6 people, so it has to be buffet, otherwise folks will be eating off the actual platters!

I dream of having a formal dining room where I can line the food platters down the center of it.

I was looking for a tutorial on these since I could not remember for the life of me how I made them in elementary school. The Partner found his beautiful stamp collection, albeit, in ugly books. Time for a quick DIY project!

I have a couch from Room and Board that converts into a bed that retails for $999 also. It sits in our second bedroom that we use as an multi-purpose area. It's perfect since we use it as a couch and is fairly comfortable, albeit be forewarned that it is on the firm side.

I have a few suggestions:

Chalkboard the wall. Chalkboard paint comes in a variety of colors these days including white. I would paint a large box them frame it out using molding/trim. If that is too big of a commitment, then maybe frame out a piece of canvas and use the paint. Then I would invite friends (artistic or not) to come over and "decorate" your house. Give them chalk and let them go wild -- it's a fun (and cheap) way to get your artistic friends, children or neighbors involved in decorating your home.

Plexiglass: Go to a place like TAP Plastics (Bay Area, CA) and get clear plexi cut to measure. Then using etching cream to create series of panels that demonstrate your artistic hand or get a stencil and use that. Attach to the wall (depending on size and weight) using double stick tape, d-ring hooks or bolts. It's a great way to create pattern using shadow and light, plus visually it won't take up much room on the wall.

Silhouettes of Family: Do a modern (or old fashioned) take on family portraits by selecting several enlarging them using a copier, tracing them on white paper and doing a silhouette. Customize the paper and paint color to your scheme. It's a nice way to still have family portraits but display them in a quirky and modern way.
