as someone who did this last year to four windows in my living room, i can say, save yourself the trouble and go a different route. they end up with quite a lot of wrinkles (if you are using them both open and closed) and pulling strangely and not hanging quite straight if you don't cut & sew perfect lines (i took the sans vinyl route). i thought they were genius for about a week and have been considering new treatments ever since. i also used a fairly obnoxious pattern, which i thought would be fine at the time. something plain jane may have been better. or something totally different. how about those diy roman blinds where you fix fabric to a deconstructed mini-blind? they fit inside a window frame and would look better i think--as long as you cover the hardware in the same manner as others have suggested.

yes on the mayo! also helps with the whole cold butter ripping apart my bread when i try to spread it problem. i thought i'd miss the butter flavor but it's.... even better?

another tip - if yr making a grilled cheese and tomato, try pan frying the tomato slices first in a smidge of olive oil. then add them to the grilled cheese after you've cooked it. so good, and no soggy mess.

i went for the first time yesterday. i'm not sure if i even managed to get half way through before i gave up exhausted and turned back. going on the final day was a plus, and, i waited til my walk back to make a few purchases - a pair of vintage two drawer steel card files for $23! (27 EACH when i first walked through) and a vintage chevron print cape for 5 bucks, down from 15. win! i also picked up a set of travellers opera glasses, awesome!

adore the home, especially that kitchen sink. i'd LOVE to wash dishes in that. i visited austin in the spring, considering a move. i finally got to check out travis heights on my last day and it stole my heart. i do hope you find a new place in as beautiful a neighborhood.

oh yes yes, please. important tip, and exactly what i'm going to do when i make these -- pan fry the pancetta a bit then fry the sage leaves in the fat. maybe this will just end up the same result as roasting it all together? in any event, i discovered frying sage in bacon fat a bit ago and was very happy it happened.

is that an australian cattle dog? i have two of those buggers and they go nuts in my 4xthesizeofyour apartment. i wish i could stand the thought of parting with them cause they would love a farm. as long as it had squirrels.
